Beginning originally as world percussionist, Danny Stern, drumming in the park for enjoyment in March 1990 and growing on its own from there, the Piedmont Park Drum and Dance Circle is Atlanta's oldest ongoing drum circle. Bring an instrument or just yourselves and join in along the curved wall overlooking the Meadow at Piedmont Park. For this circle's session, we were joined with a surprise guest appearance from singer, songwriter and music producer, Amerika Sutton. During this circle, she led the group in rhythm and song and had the crowd singing along in call and response.

Hosted by Heino Winkler and Scott Chantos, this circle meets in the gazebo overlooking the field at the upper parking lot. Sol Dance, a diverse ecstatic dance community promoting freedom of expression and emotional release through dance and movement in judgement-free spaces throughout Atlanta, also features live organic rhythm during their regular second Sunday monthly dances. Before transitioning to the set of resident DJ, Scott Houston, a crew of percussionists join together at the center of the event space for a live rhythm performance. Afterwards, the crew drums in support of Scott Houston's set.

For this dance, I was given the role of live rhythm lead to support singer, Shonali Banerjee, and filled out the crew with a variety of cultural music sounds as well as friends I've jammed with frequently in community drum circles around Georgia.

A hidden gem in Smyrna, Georgia, hosted by Marisa Skolky, this is a space where all instruments, voices and experience levels are welcomed and experimenting with sound in a collaborative setting is encouraged. A collection of percussion instruments are always available to share and the circle's vibe has an eclectic music therapy feel. The circle happens indoors in Marisa's music room with a break for potluck refreshments towards the middle. People flow in throughout the first half and, after a while, the group hits a pocket and music just keeps on flowing.

As part of their Fireside Sessions series, the Decipher Dojo Men's Brotherhood in Atlanta, Georgia includes workshops from varying facilitators centered around different topics and themes every month in addition to group discussion segments. Founded in 2025, Scott Wise and Aj Bswif created Decipher Dojo as a way for men to connect as well as to support each other in areas they may feel stuck while collaborating to decipher solutions together.
