  • Drunch 48: Lu 4 u(2)
Episode 48 excerpt: “We have to work harder to push to get the changes that allow everyone to be seen as a valued member of society.”
It was a hot morning! We kept brunch cool with bowls of vegan vanilla yogurt, fresh fruit, and walnuts.
As most Eastern Washington natives, Lu moved away after college and quickly got into the non-profit world. It was there she learned how to really listen to what others' needs are and how to build inclusive policies before we had words for it. She found herself back in Spokane after a quick but immersed experience in rural Oregon and focused on Spokane's houseless issues through working with Empire Health Foundation.
This woman does it all - from consulting to cannabis and working with the LGBTQIA2S+ community serving as board president for Spectrum Center Spokane, she is incredibly impressive and compassionate. And now she's running for a District 3 seat on Spokane's City Council. Inspired to run by the events of summer of 2019, she aims to open the door for someone to do the same thing, someone who may have fewer opportunities. She delves into the anger, lack of community response, and how to be truly equitable.

  • Drunch 47: F*ck This Panini
Your ears do not deceive you. We are back on our bullshit!
The panini of 2020 (which has now spilled into 2021) was a doozy. It took a huge toll on our mental health and we struggled hard. We have a few remotely-recorded episodes but it just wasn't the same. It was also super fun last year to learn a past guest was an abuser and protected another abuser. BELIEVE SURVIVORS. However, we're motivated now more than ever to keep being a platform for those that need it. We're leveling up with a new editor and TWO new advertisers! We're so excited for what this year will bring. Thanks for continuing to be a Drunch'r. We missed y'all.

Stuck in quarantine in our respective homes, we all salivate over what breakfast dish and cocktails we would have if we could have recorded in person (hint: it involves all the food, and life hack: ask for extra hollandaise). Our guests, Miss Leo & Lili, are 2 members of the BDSM community and in a SUB/DOM relationship. We chat about how they met and what their relationship is like, kinks they have, and give us the rundown of what BDSM truly is (misconceptions, basic rules, you get the point). You won't find any of this content in those 50 Shades of Grey movies!

  • Drunch 45: Spokane County Mutual Aid w/Nico & Sylas!
Episode 45 excerpt: "This is meant to continue to show that we can take care of each other in a community."
Nico and Sylas, two volunteers from Spokane County Mutual Aid, join us to share what the organization's purpose is and how to help out. SCMA, which is 100% volunteer-powered, was formed to provide aid to those most vulnerable in our community during Washington state's stay-at-home order (and hopefully after the order has been lifted): POC, black and indigenous people, disabled, the elderly, and immigrant and refugee families. A current project is getting face masks to our immigrant and refugee communities. They also talk about what they do for SCMA and future plans for the group. People can request assistance (website, email, social media) or by calling their hotline at 503-662-7912. People can also request grocery assistance (either money for groceries or someone to get groceries for them), small cash donations for bills, prescription pick up, etc. They continually need support with matching a volunteer with someone who needs aid, and they need reusable face masks or supplies to make masks. SCMA works with a few other wonderful organizations within the community and wants to shout them all out (TOO many to list!), y'all know who you are!
For more information on SCMA, tap here. You can follow SCMA on social media @SpokaneCountyMutualAid and on Facebook. Send them an email at [email protected].

  • Drunch 43: Hive Mind w/Melinda (remote recording)
Episode 43 excerpt: “Dead ends and hopelessness and getting stuck doesn’t stand a chance in a space that is centered around women.”
It's our first remote recording EVARRRR! (Made possible with Zencastr!) Audio quality may differ, please bear with us...and wash your goddamn hands.
(No food/beverages to be had. Sad.)
We chat with Melinda, co-founder of The Hive. What is The Hive, you ask? Located in Coeur d'Alene, ID, it's an open, multi purpose co-working space and learning annex with a focus on women. She tells us about her background in the beauty industry and her education, as well as her life experiences with organized religion, drugs, and abusive relationships. She gives us the lowdown on how and her daughter, Delia, built The Hive from scratch, the different responses and reactions they’ve heard, what programs, classes, and workshops they’d like to have. She also explains the different types of memberships to The Hive, what’s included, and other things they’re doing to get The Hive ready. They encourage people who may not be able to afford a membership to still seek them out and work something out with them. There are many ways to support The Hive and get involved!

Our special guest Kaity joins us for French toast and mimosas, and after a brief detour about ADHD, they explain terminology, misconceptions and tropes portrayed in media, and their own experience being asexual. • Drunch 40: Never Been Kissed (but make it lesbian) w/Taylor Weech!
Episode 40 excerpt: "If I was a cat I'd be eating the fuck out of some roaches."
Color us STUFFED! We feasted on cinnamon rolls, a delish vegan scramble, and grapefruit mimosas.
Meet Taylor Weech, former host of Praxis on KYRS, co-founder of Keep Spokane Kind Of Gross (shout out to the other co-founder Erika!), and general woman about town. Spokane-born & bred Weech hosted Praxis for 7 years about feminism and social justice. She instructs us on how to keep Spokane kind of gross once she leaves for school and we talk extensively about her recreating Never Been Kissed (despite not really remembering the plot of the movie) with a queer spin on it. We stroll down Memory Lane reminiscing about old obsessions with alternative/college rock/early pop punk bands and the music our parents listened to. Weech has been a solid community activist working within the youth program of PJALs (Peace and Action Justice League) and as a board member. She gushes about how great Gen Z is, analyzes Adam Sandler’s acting caliber, and recounts the horrifying hellscape that is Cats (the movie).
Keep Spokane Kind of Gross stickers can be found at Giant Nerd Books & Atticus.

  • Drunch 39: Women+s March & how to ruin musical instruments w/Maria!
Episode 39 excerpt: "First of all, women’s rights and human rights shouldn’t be political, they are but they shouldn’t be, they should just be that you want people to have basic rights.”
    Content warning: Vehicular collision injuries
Maria Garcia-Bachman, one of the organizers of this year's Women+s March in Spokane gives us the lowdown on the event happening  Saturday, January 18, 2020 while we grub on breakfast tacos and swish mimosas around in our mouth holes. Maria recalls her first Women+s March experience and how powerful it was and what it was like planning previous marches. She also shares her long lost dreams of playing the violin in Irish pubs and why you NEVER leave instruments in your car. Maria delves briefly into her occupation, the gnarliest injury/collision she knows of and common injuries. Did we go off on a weird Law and Order: SVU tangent? Guess you'll just have to listen to find out.

  • Drunch 38: Local activism, sex trafficking & helping the houseless w/Mercy Agi Aguilar
Episode 38 excerpt: "Be kind to each other. Nobody knows the full history of another person and what it took for them to get there."
    Content warning: sex trafficking, rape
Our lovely guest gifted us with homemade crispy tortillas so of course we made tacos on our 38th episode! Mercy Agi Aguilar has been an active community member, helping the houseless, and others in need for several years. We also discuss her work with The Jonah Project, a local nonprofit that helps at-risk youth and sex trafficking victims by finding them find a safe place to stay and "needed care after experiencing sexual and psychological trauma." Spoiler: Hoopfest, the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the country, draws a lot of sex trafficking to Spokane. Mercy is a lovely human being full of compassion and a valued member here in Spokane. Her work with those experiencing homelessness is so, so appreciated and needed.
