Drunk Broadway

My guest on this very special “On Tour” episode is Rhamesis Muncada. Rhamesis is a musician, a theatre patron, and one of my favorite humans. We discuss his history with musical theatre, his recent visit to New York, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Puerto Rico disaster relief song “Almost Like Praying.”

My guest on this episode is Paul Naas, a professor, an animator, and a dear friend. It was important to me from the beginning of Drunk Broadway to get everyone’s perspective on theatre. I want to talk to the audience, the crew, the front office, everyone. In this episode, Paul and I discuss why Spamalot and Sunset Blvd aren’t as good as you think they are, the history of Disney during the early Disneyfication of Broadway, and we play a theatre version of Marry Fuck Kill named Soulmate, Showmance, and Cyanide.

I’ve often been quoted as saying that if you want my opinion about theatre ask Mike Rhone because you’ll get a wonderfully articulate and educated answer. Unless we’re talking about Light in the Piazza, which of course we do in this episode. He’s an amazing performer and a dear friend. Mylissa and I have shared the stage a couple of times in Sunday in the Park with George, and most recently in Shrek. Strong women rock my world, and Mylissa is fiercely strong and a wonderful castmate.

I’m thrilled to have had the chance continue our friendships in this podcast. In this episode John helps me understand Jersey Boys, why live musicals need an audience (even when done on TV), and we play a rather cheeky round of Would You Rather.
