  • Ep.17 – Tony Gonzales and Raegena Raymond-Brunker

Audience dears, oh, we know you’re out there listening, and you should follow our sweet advice to Drunk Broadway where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guest for this episode are Tony Gonzales and Raegena Raymond-Brunker. Tony and I shared the stage in Miss Saigon and Young Frankenstein. His passion and work ethic immediately impressed me, and I’m thrilled to have him on the show. I first met Raegena when she was my fearless stage manager for Rent (and Miss Saigon later on). We also shared the stage in Annie, where she had a fabulous turn as Miss Hannigan. Her incredible talent is only matched by her kindness. In this episode we discuss why it doesn’t matter what skin color a mermaid has, what shows we would have run forever, the night Joseph didn’t have an amazing coat, and we play a game of The Missing Middle.

  • Ep.16 – Betsy Kruse Craig and Glenna Murillo

It’s more than you, it is more than me. No matter what we are, we are a family here on Drunk Broadway, where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Betsy Kruse Craig and Glenna Murillo. Betsy and I were (ahem … are) family because of a production of Addams Family a few years back. She is the Artistic Director of Pear Theatre (thepear.org), a dedicated director, a passionate performer, and I can’t wait to share the stage with her again. Glenna is someone that I have fanboyed over for years. Her voice, her undeniable presence, and her comedic timing are all devine. I’m honored to have both of these fierce ladies on the show. In this episode we discuss the difficulty of choosing a season of shows, the near impossible task of balancing life and theatre, protecting yourself when playing dramatic characters, and we play a round of Musicals Against Humanity.

  • Ep.15 – Gabriel Wolfenstein and Noelani Neal

Good mornin, good morning, we’ve talked the whole night through here on Drunk Broadway! Where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Gabriel Wolfenstein and Noelani Neal. Gabe is a dear friend who loves the romance of the old school movie musical and the snark after seeing anything written in the last 30 years. His passion and support of local theatre always makes for a great conversation. Noe, who recently moved to NYC, is an amazing dancer (with a voice to match), is a Disney Princess (yes really), a wonderfully proud geek, and a good friend. In this episode we discuss what makes for a production successful, theatre horror stories, and we play a round of badly described musicals.

  • Ep.14 – Andrew Kracht and Vanessa Alvarez

Another op’nin’, another show, In Philly, Boston or Baltimo’, A chance for stage folks to say hello on Drunk Broadway … where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Andrew Kracht and Vanessa Alvarez. Andrew and I shared the stage in Young Frankenstein and Miss Saigon. He’s a wonderful performer, a giving castmate, and his hard work in the front office of Palo Alto Players is wonderfully inspirational. Vanessa and I have also shared the stage twice in Sunday in the Park with George and a very similar show **awkward cough** Shrek: The Musical. She is a fantastic castmate, a passionate performer, and a warrior who can perform on crutches. In this episode we discuss theatre horror stories (featuring the aforementioned crutches), who should star in “Andrew & Vanessa: The Musical”, and play a round of Gender Swapped casting.

  • Ep.13 – Badier Velji and Kaila Tova

Come along and listen to the podcast Drunk Broadway where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Badier Velji and Kaila Tova. Badier is a passionate supporter of local arts, a wonderful conversationalist, most importantly he is a dear friend. Kaila has a long history of helping create theatre from both sides of the stage, including her one woman show that was produced at 54 Below! In this episode, we discuss Badier’s discovery of musical theatre, Nearly Naked Broadway (which is the peanut butter and jelly like combination of musical theatre and burlesque), and we play a fun round of Jukebox Musical: The Game.

  • Ep.12 – Jennifer Young and Kayvon Kordestani

C’mon babe why don’t we paint town and all that jazz, here on Drunk Broadway where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Jennifer Young and Kayvon Kordestani. Jennifer and I shared the stage in Miss Saigon and Young Frankenstein, so I had a front row ticket to witness her professionalism, talent, and love for theatre. Kayvon and I shared the boards for Shrek: The Musical. Her love of the process and her dedication to the production was inspiring. In this episode, we discuss our current (and all time) favorite cast recordings, the beauty and difficulty of teaching choreography, and we play a fun round of “Opening Lines”.

  • Ep.11 – Russell Mangan and Lucie Sudmeier

The sun is shining, it’s a lovely day. A perfect podcast for you to play, and we’ve got lots of drinks to maaake. Here on Drunk Broadway where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Russell Mangan and Lucie Sudmeier. Russell is a hard working and long commuting lawyer with a love for all things theatre. Lucie’s passion for the local theatre scene and helping create the next generation of stars is just wonderful. I’m thrilled to have them both on the show. In this episode we discuss inventive ways to use your fingers, the fear of auditioning, why the arts are vital to the tech industry, and we play a round of What’s The Connection?

  • Ep.10 – Sasha Motalygo and Dave Leon

Some folks dream of the wonders they’ll do before their time on this planet is through, and some just drink and talk about theatre. Welcome to Drunk Broadway where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. My guests for this episode are Sasha Motalygo and Dave Leon. Sasha is a force of nature on stage with a voice and personality that you can’t help but love. Sasha is also the composer and performer of the Drunk Broadway theme song! As for Dave … well … he is the reason I have a lead pipe in my trunk for callbacks. He’s a wonderful performer, and I’m thrilled he was able to join us for a drink and conversation. In the episode we discuss stage horror stories, roles that you would play forever, we play a round of Would You Rather, and workshop a few SciFi musicals!

  • Ep.9 – Jeanie Smith and Jen Ellington

Beedle dee, dee dee dee, TWO LADIES! Beedle dee, dee dee dee, Drunk Broadway … where we discuss cocktails and jazz hands with a fanatical passion. For this episode, I had the great pleasure to speak with Jeanie Smith and Jen Ellington. Jeanie is a local legend, with a theatre resume to match, she is a teacher, a director, a performer, and was wonderful to speak with and learn from. Jen, who I shared the stage with in Fiddler on the Roof, is an excellent performer who gives back by teaching the next generation of theatre kids. In the episode, we discuss the beauty and difficulty of teaching theatre, diversity in casting, and play a round of Opening Lines and Terrible Sequels.

  • Episode 85: We Love Our Audience
A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.

When, while the lovely valley teems with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed us in his own image, and the breath of that universal love which bears and sustains us, as it floats around us in an eternity of bliss; and then, my friend, when darkness overspreads my eyes, and heaven and earth seem to dwell in my soul and absorb its power, like the form of a beloved mistress, then I often think with longing, Oh, would I could describe these conceptions, could impress upon paper all that is living so full and warm within me, that it might be the mirror of my soul, as my soul is the mirror of the infinite God!
I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.
O my friend — but it is too much for my strength — I sink under the weight of the splendour of these visions!
