DTVC Podcast

In this special Halloween solo podcast, I count down my ten favorite horror films. With each one, I give some background on why that movie is special to me. Some hints on ones that made the cut: "It's rainin' Depp, hallelujah it's rainin' Depp!"; one of the greatest dance scenes of all time; and "did you have to drink some chuck?"

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back to discuss two more DTV films from Tubi. First we look at "Overrun" starring Omid Zader, and featuring a couple mainstays on our podcast, Bruce Dern and Johnny Messner. After that we look at "Phoenix," written and directed by Daniel Zirilli, and starring Natalie Eva Marie and Neal McDonough. In addition to that, we look at what we've been watching lately, chat about Brett's visit to Philly and our meet-up at a local VHS pop-up sale, and have a discussion about eating a good soup, and not wanting to be interrupted while trying to enjoy it at the optimum temperature.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we finish our series looking at the Expendables films with "The Expendables 3" and "Expend4bles." With part 3, I look at how this was sauteed in wrong sauce, but tried to understand why Stallone went the way he did with it. Then with part 4, I talk about whether or not this film should've even been made, and if this was the movie worth waiting 10 years for.

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back to discuss two more DTV films from Tubi. First we look at "The Getback" with a bunch of names we like, like Theo Rossi, Kim Coates, and Dermot Mulroney. After that we look at "The Weapon," a Tony Schiena vehicle that features a bunch of names, including some Bruce Dern/Jeff Fahey padding at the end.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we start our series looking at the Expendables films with "The Expendables" and "The Expendables 2." With the first one, I get into some of the context in which the film was released, when we as action fans were looking for exactly what Stallone delivered to us; I also look at how this film brought Dolph back into the mainstream. Then with the second one, I talk about Van Damme as the baddie and the great job he did, plus how Stallone delivered again on what we as action fans wanted out of these movies..

It's a Massachusetts theme in this episode, where I'm joined once again by Ty from Comeuppance Reviews to discuss two films with a connection to the Bay State. First we go back to Massachusetts's own CT with the film Hunting Games, and after that we look at American Violence, which features a small part by former Patriots standout and one of--if not the greatest tight end of all time, Rob Gronkowski.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we finish our series looking at the Kickboxer films with "Kickboxer: Vengeance" and "Kickboxer: Retaliation." With the first one, we look at what this reboot meant after 20 years from part 5. How does Moussi compare to other leads in the series? Then with the second one, I talk about how this movie was too long, all the names in it, and whether the baddie worked or not. Finally, we wrap by looking at Van Damme's career arc between the first film and the last one.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we continue our series looking at the Kickboxer films with "Kickboxer 3: The Art of War," "Kickboxer 4: The Aggressor," and "Redemption: Kickboxer 5." With part 3, we look at ways in which this was sauteed in wrong sauce, the low-rent Joe Izuzu for a baddie, and Sasha Mitchell's too sweet pants in the final scene. Then with part 4, I talk about Albert Pyun's return to the series, and his darker take on Kickboxer with Sasha Mitchell. What if he had had a chance to make his Kickboxer sequels he wasn't able to make? Finally, in part 5, we discuss Dacascos's martial arts, and James Ryan's baddie, plus speculate on why nothing further was done with Kickboxer for 20 years after this one. Also throughout the episode, we look at IMDb lists of what aired on WSBK TV 38 in Boston during the months of April, June, and July of 2001.
