DTVC Podcast

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. In this episode we continue the series looking at the Fast and Furious films, moving to "Fast and Furious" and "Fast Five." I try to set the stage for what the film industry was like when both films come out, look at how the franchise pivots from racing films to big budget blockbusters, and how that pivot allows the films to thrive at a time when Disney was starting to consolidate its hold on the industry. I also chat about Spiro Razatos, how he takes things to another level when he joins in Fast Five, plus his PM classics and the contributions he made to the Golden Age of DTV Action.

The guys from Comeuppance are back, and this time we're talking about Michael Dudikoff, giving you our lists of his unsung films. If you've seen the American Ninjas, and you know most of his Cannon films, we give the next ones to go to. Beyond that, we have our usual fun tangents, you never know where the conversation will go when the three of us get together.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some of the weeks we don't have episodes of the main podcast. First up, I'll be doing a series of episodes looking at the Fast and Furious films, starting in this episode with "The Fast and the Furious," "2 Fast 2 Furious," and "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." I talk about my own history with them, how they've aged over time, and I continually make the same mistake I've been making for 20 years in calling Paul Walker "Scott," and with a solo episode I don't have a guest on to correct me.

In this episode we're joined once again by Scott Murphy from the "All 90s Action, All the Time" and the "New Horror Express" podcasts, and we're going back to the Seagal DTV well, this time to look at 2006's "Mercenary for Justice." We try to make sense of the plot, Matt struggles in his knowledge of Michigan geography, and the inclusion of Luke Goss gives us a chance to veer off on an 80s British pop music tangent.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Ty from Comeuppance Reviews as we go back to the Willis Well, looking at the Jesse V. Johnson flick "White Elephant," and then EFO rough sit "Survive the Game." Which film will lead us to more tangents as we discuss it? And just what will those tangents be? Tune in to find out as we make our way through more of Willis's 2021-2022 oeuvre.

In this episode I'm joined once again by screenwriter Tom Jolliffe, who this time is accompanied by his filmmaking partner, director, producer, actor, and many more, Nathan Shepka to discuss their upcoming project "The Baby in the Basket." We also look at the film they collaborated on together last year, "When Darkness Falls," and get more of Nathan's perspective on making that film.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Mitch from the Video Vacuum, as we discuss the 1990 party romp classic Ski School. Not only do we discuss that movie and what made it work, but we look at the early days of Skin-a-max and what cable was like in the late 80s into the 90s, around the time Ski School was released. We also chat about what Mitch is working on over at his site, The Video Vacuum, and his Tubi Continued project, where he's looking to cover 365 Tubi films this year.

In this episode we go an UnSub Above with Ty from Comeuppance Reviews, as we discuss the new Dolph submarine flick co-starring Frank Grillo, "Operation Seawolf." Is this one of Dolph's best DTV films in recent memory? We then follow that up with the UnSub hunter himself, Thomas "Hotch" Gibson from "Criminal Minds," in the film "Shadow Wolves." In between we give our idea for the Criminal Minds UnSub Shop that we think CBS should open in Times Square, complete with Criminal Minds themed sandwiches.

In this episode, I'm joined once again by Scott Murphy from the All 90s Action, All the Time and New Horror Express podcasts. This time we're talking about Steven Seagal and his 2009 film "The Keeper." We talk about Seagal in general as well, and how our attitudes regarding him have changed from when he was one of the kings of action in the 90s, and now when he's the king of... well, something else.

Ty from Comeuppance is back for another double-dip, this time featuring the one and only Kevin Dillon, aka Johnny Drama. We start with a Willis flick, "Wire Room," then switch over to a Mel Gibson one, "Hot Seat." We talk about what unique elements Drama brings to these standard Emmett-Furla flicks that makes them more palatable. We also look at what it might mean if Gibson is doing these instead of Willis now that Willis is retiring.
