Most of us have eaten a meal. Maybe even two. What is it that keeps us coming back for more? Is it merely to tank up the engine or is there more going on?
Our heroes take a gastronomical ambulatory perusal at food, going from fuel to feast but also feast to fuel. Apropos of the season, Megan and Edwin will tickle your taste buds and leave you confused at a higher level. Just like a proper holiday gathering.
Edwin and Megan complete another challenge, this time it was for drawing every day.
Is it a myth that you can't learn how to draw, or a fact that will plague our dynamic duo 'till the end of time? Can our heroes overcome the cuts and bruises of past failures? Is a hook a worthy enough item to draw, or is there only a finite number of laudable subjects? Edwin and Megan hope to inspire you to go from scribble to sgraffito.
This, and so, so, so, much more in this week's exciting episode.
The Detroit Institute of Art is celebrating the 100th anniversary of their purchase of Vincent Van Gogh's Self-Portrait #7. It took around 30 years after the artist's death to be recognized in the States, and even then he was quite polarizing. Is he still today? Should we care? What can one expect to see at the DIA's show "Van Gogh in America"?
Megan and Edwin will answer all your questions and more in this exciting episode.
Check out the store for pieces that are reminiscent of the artists style.
Explore the imaginative worlds of Jim Henson with us as we dive into his career and movies like "The Muppet Movie" and "Labyrinth".
The Grand Rapids Art Museum has a current exhibit about Jim Henson's work which our in house Bert and Ernie investigated and now will tell all.
Filled with Muppet goodness, Megan and Edwin proclaim the joys of the Muppet universe and why you should still care about the Rainbow Connection. Whether going through challenges or chasing dreams, the Muppets will continue to inspire us.
Edwin and Megan review this years Art Prize, the largest outdoor art competition. Wandering around Grand Rapids, MI, Megan and Edwin sought for a prize and found art. They were later told that that was the prize.
Listen for art trends, victories, and stumbles, but also for a project that Edwin and Megan might enter next year.
My couch, my table, my couch, my table! Which is it? Can it be that a 1930's (ish) couch can be made into a table? We think so!
A couple months ago Edwin was given the specific challenge of "do sumthin' cool with this" and he is happy to report that he has indeed done sumthin' cool.
It was important to keep the integrity of the original couchiness, so details like keeping a few tacks and using the inside supports as the back legs was a must.
Listen all the way to the end to find out what the next challenge (challenges???) will be.
To ego or not to ego, that is the question!
Edwin and Megan discuss what a healthy ego looks like, if there can be such a thing. From Herodotus to Freud, from cooking to Jiu Jitsu we look at the play ego has in all of life.
Megan's had it and she's giving up. On perfectionism, that is. Shifting her focus from perfect to good, she is practicing this mindset by using materials that are inherently imperfect. By making simple (yet beautiful!) projects using recycled materials over and over again, Megan has learned that striving for "good" is better than "overthinking" and "perfectionism".
Join us as we deal with this difficult subject by talking about kombucha, pumpkin pie, and feral chickens.
Megan and Edwin go on a brief descent into madness (some say they were already there!) and talk about Edgar Allen Poe, "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and how to get through the Romantic's literature of the 19th century.
The horror, the sublime, the horror, the subliiiiiiiime!!!!
Duck season. Wabbit season. DUCK season! WABBIT season! Well, here it's both!
That's right, this quacky place has a new addition - wabbits, I mean, rabbits.
Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie, our 2 fabulous English Angoras have brought joy and meaning to Megan's life and FLOOF!
Listen in as Megan tells all on how she got this hare brained scheme and how you can follow your dreams!
