Dungeon Master of None

Hey bud, listen up. Your D&D edition is going through some changes. Changes can be scary! But changes can also be good for us. The Ranger? No, not for the Ranger, but good for other better classes. Look, changes are how we grow. You can use Sleight of Hand to pick a lock now? Maybe! We don't actually know. In conclusion, Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, 2nd Edition (Revised 2024) is a land of contrasts. There is a lot here that's cool (like the new cantrips) but there's also a lot here that's confusing as hell. Regardless, DMs Rob and Matt are here to guide you through some of the new mechanics, numbers, and changes in the new Player's Handbook.

Shout out to the T.E. "RPGBOT" Kamstra for cataloguing the changes from the 2014 to the 2024 Player's Handbook: https://rpgbot.net/dnd-2024-5e-transition-guide-and-change-log-everything-thats-different-in-the-new-players-handbook/

Matt and Rob review DUNGEON MASTERS, a very slickly produced audio drama podcast starring Wil Wheaton and Jon Hamm, which is even more confusing than it sounds. Spoiler: it's not very good!

This review "is a nonliving, distinct thing." After ten years of Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons, several years of playtesting and teasing, and many months of hype, the 2024 Revised Player's Handbook is here. Is it a perfect triumph? A tour de force? Slightly better than the 2014 one? Actually 5.5e? A missed opportunity? A sign of the stagnation and rot at the heart of firms in the core of the capitalist world-economy? A D&D treasure? Tune in to DMs Matt and Rob to find out!

DMs Rob and Matt have returned with the hidden and secret rules in Dungeons and Dragons 5e! The weight of all past editions has burdened (or blessed) the current ruleset with occluded structures and strange leftovers that are often not fully explained in the text but are still there in the rules if a wise Dungeon Master looks for them. Join us for a discussion of the history, uses, abuses, and tricks of these secret rules that may help be better a better DM.
