  • Craig Shannon - Dusty Futon Musicians Podcast

Craig Shannon is a story teller...and a DAMN GOOD one! You will cry, you will laugh (listen to the end for some good laughs), and you will love the stories. His wife Jackie, "The Wife", joins him to help us understand this quiet and reserved fellow. Craig says "I tell stories...and they're mostly dark" but the tales share feelings and thoughts that are very relatable. One of the more interesting things about Craig is that he typically stuns audiences into silence when a song ends, but to him silence is more than an applause...he has a unique way of connecting with his audience.

While he hasn't officially put anything out for purchase yet, he does play out as often as he can at local haunts like The Merrow, Brick by Brick, and LeStats. Check out his ReverbNation page for details and his next shows! We play three of his tracks and Spicy Kim does cry...after all, everyone needs a good cry. It can be very cathartic...

  • Hocus - Dusty Futon Musicians Podcast

Hocus jumps right in with Fat Lando and Harlan, who just wouldn't shut up, getting very blue right away. The jokes pile up quick as two-thirds of the sound behind Hocus share stories and talk music. James couldn't make it, but joined us in spirit…and YouTube LIVE…even though Tyler thought he saw him. This punk band has been around as Hocus for 7 years, with Harlan and James being relatively new additions.

Speaking of Punk, Fat Lando is quick to tell us what he wanted to name the band…and, we don't really want to put that in print…but Tyler doesn't stop from sharing some graphic names he's seen right along with him. We actually do end up talking music, including Harlan's explanation of why the Bass is so different from the guitar. We play three songs from their 2017 album…

East County's own Full Moon Light highlights their vast music background with their multi-genre approach to their music. The have LIVE PRACTICES at Julian Beer Company on Wednesdays, go catch them in the act. It's worth noting that they basically don't have a lead singer, whoever writes typically sings lead...

We dive into their first album, self-titled "Full Moon Light", and talked about their diversity in music energizing their fan-base. • Rennie D - Dusty Futon Musicians Podcast

Folk Style Singer Songwriter Rennie D plays LIVE on the Dusty Futon and we talk about her brand new album! Born and raised in Rhode Island, Rennie D moved out to San Diego in her 20's. Loving the beaches (and bot being able to admit that she loves West-Coast beaches better) her first album is titles "SaltWater" and features a few other metaphors about the seas.

Rennie D didn't pick up the guitar until 32 years old, proving you never should let anything stop you from pursuing your passion. Her natural songwriting ability and ease of playing guitar got her into a few bands early on, but then she realized she's better off on her own. Realizing it's much different than being in a band, she took a break in 2005...only to start again when she became a billiards widow! We check out two of her songs then get a LIVE PERFORMANCE of the song that's soon to be Tyler's favorite..."Type A"

  • Matthew Phillips - Dusty Futon Producers Corner

Matthew Phillips is an accomplished musician AND producer who's NOT too good for the Dusty Futon! This homegrown San Diegan has already made a name for himself (HIS name) by performing at KAABOO, Coachella, and a massive European Discovery tour! Spicy Kim has stalked him for MONTHS trying to get him on...and our schedules finally matched up. His music has already been featured in an award winning movie at Sundance...and he hasn't released an album! It's all singles and debuts here on The Dusty Futon, even thought Tim Pyles of 91X got to him first (as usual)...

Matthew started young with his concert pianist Grandma recognizing his talent for picking out melodies and getting him into music quickly. His love for women got him into guitar, and his love for music got him writing. Thanks to a myriad of influences from nearly every genre he developed his own unique sound. We talk about his traveling on his Discovery Tour (including a BEATLES reference) and how his experience in a band taught him what he was doing wrong while playing a few of his singles. You can follow him and listen to more music at www.matthewphillipsmusic.com

  • FUSED - Dusty Futon Musicians Podcast

Chilean-born Metal guitarist Xavier Perez formed FUSED in 2004 and hasn't looked back. Nearly 20 musicians, two cities, and 15 years later he's got the formula...and it's San Diego! Seriously, he's gone through more musicians than Slipknot to find the current lineup, which Xavier says is the best...and he hopes to be THE lineup for FUSED. He started this group up in Olympia after having difficulties finding a band he gelled with. This was during the post-grunge days of Seattle...and with 2 years of Jazz apprenticeship and over a year of music theory he wasn't finding what he wanted. Until a friend told him to start his own...

After meeting Jason, the two began forming the basis of what is FUSED while up in Seattle. Coming down to San Diego gave him (and FUSED) some time to reevaluate the direction, and he slowly started gathering a new drummer in Miguel Rosales in 2015, Paul Miranda on bass in 2016, and Andrew Gedker's smokin' guitar in 2017. None of the band members were born in the same country...giving them a multi-cultural background that fills out their sound. We chat with Xavier about his trials and his achievements while going over his brand-new EP featuring these guys, "The Heartless Sway." Find out

  • K Prouty - Dusty Futon Musicians Podcast

K Prouty is an Alternative/Metal INSTRUMENTAL band headed by guitar fiend Ken Prouty. He showed up to the recording session with his entire rig and wanted to play live for us! He brought some backing tracks for three of their songs and had his bassist (and wife) bring her gear too. We plugged them both directly into the setup and off we went... The professional skateboarder decided that guitar was a better path and began focusing more on it when he was around 18. He has a calm about him that comes from being worldly...he was born in Japan and has travelled all over the world, helping to increase his diversity in music and cultures.

Ken grew up with a multitude of influences in music, from the 70's rock of his oldest brother and the new wave of his other brother to the widely different preferences both of his parents had he's heard it all. His grandma's 8-track of the Everly Brothers got him hooked with the tremolo effect! We found K Prouty from our ReverbNation campaign and he rocked us with his impressive skills. Even without taking off the Beanie...

  • Tweed Deluxe - Dusty Futon Musicians Podcast

Michael Oleata of Tweed Deluxe joins us to talk about his band and share his music! Tweed Deluxe is definitely Blues based Rock; however, you couldn't tell it from the first song we play...It's one of the tracks off their new 10-song album "Itty Bitty King," available in for purchase or download now. Most of the album, however, is their well-known sound. They've been working the scene since 2010!

Reverbnation brought us Michael, the "Hot Wire Guitarist," and he brings us some awesome stories! From the recording of the album being like a jam session to his wife hearing the song he wrote about her for the first time we hear some emotional and funny things from the bands history. The rest of the band couldn't make it physically but were definitely there in spirit. Lyle Koonts plays the Bass and is considered the band's technician with his expertise in electronics, and the big man himself on drums, Robert Sheenan (Big Jon gave him the new nick-name ROCBERT). Both members provide backing vocals, and this three-piece can rock out a stage.
