The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Expansion

Disney Vacation Club has shared its plans to expand and add additional villas to The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The Big Pine Key Building (Building 9) will convert into approximately 200 “Resort” Studios. 

“Featuring the Victorian elegance and charm of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, these new Villas will offer Members luxury accommodations and amenities, with some Villas boasting stunning views of Bay Lake and Magic Kingdom. Projected to open in summer 2022, these new Villas are expanding The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and will be a part of its current condominium association. Information regarding the start of sales and rental bookings will be released at a later date.”

Walt Disney World Annual Passholders Will No Longer Receive Complimentary MagicBands

In an email to current Walt Disney World Passholders, it has been announced that beginning on August 16th, 2021, for purchases and renewals, complimentary MagicBands will no longer be provided with the purchase of your Annual Pass. However, MagicMobile is now available for those with the My Disney Experience app and is complementary to use.

“BoardWalk Ice Cream” Shop Now Open

Replacing the Ample Hills Creamery, Disney has reopened the shop, and it is now called “BoardWalk Ice Cream.” Space has been refurbished and reimagined and is now accepting Guests. Featured menu items, as listed on the Disney website, include the Short-Side Sundae, Bay-Side Brownie a la Mode, and the Strawberry Splash Shortcake. Many of the menu items are inspired by Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, per the website. 

The current hours of operation are: 

Weekdays: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PMWeekends: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Disneyland Hotel Set to Open on July 2nd

Shortly following the announcement of Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, the Disneyland Hotel now has an opening date of July 2nd, 2021. The hotel will be opening on a limited capacity basis, and reservations are now available for booking.

Walt Disney World Updates Face Covering Policy

According to the WDW Website:

“Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them in all indoor locations, except when actively eating or drinking while stationary and maintaining appropriate physical distancing. Face coverings are optional in outdoor common areas at Walt Disney World Resort, but are still required upon entering and throughout all attractions, theaters and transportation.”

This updated policy went into effect on Saturday, May 15th.

Disney Wish DVC Member Exclusive Sailing Sold-Out

At the time of recording, the second sailing of the Disney Wish, a DVC Member exclusive sailing, is now sold-out. It is still recommended to keep checking both the DVC and Disney Cruise Line websites in case additional staterooms become available. 

There are still plenty of sailings to choose from as the inaugural season for the Disney Wish begins in June and runs through September 2022. Fall and winter sailings will be available for booking at a later date.

Disney After Hours “BOO BASH” Coming This Fall

As part of the “Halfway to Halloween”  virtual event, Disney has announced that Disney After Hours will be making a return to Walt Disney World with a special “BOO BASH”, as a replacement for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this year. While exact dates have not been released at the time of recording, the event will take place on select nights from August 10th through October 31st, 2021 from 9:00 pm to 12 midnight for most nights and 9:30 pm through 12:30 am for some nights in August and September. However, event ticket holders may enter the Magic Kingdom as early as 7:00 pm and do not need to make a Disney Park Pass reservation or purchase a standard day ticket. 

“Spooky festivities will include Halloween-themed cavalcades, character sightings throughout the park, special performances by the Cadaver Dans, décor, lighting, music, treat stops with plenty of candy and so much more!”

“Guests young, old and immortal can dress in costume for the occasion and get their fill of Halloween candy. As an important reminder, costume masks are not permitted for adults; they can only be worn by children younger than 14. In addition, all guests are required to wear approved face coverings during the event.”

Tickets will go on sale in June and guests with reservations at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels will be offered an early purchase window. More information is expected to be released soon as we get closer to tickets being sold.

Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

While it has been operating for breakfast, dinner will soon become an option for those wishing to dine here. “Starting May 16, Chef Mickey’s will offer an all-you-care-to-enjoy family-style dinner that will include “no-touch” appearances like snapping a selfie or waving hello as Mickey Mouse, and some of his favorite pals make surprising appearances in each of the dining rooms. Like other character dining locations, Guests will take home a souvenir with character signatures and colorful artwork”.

Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

This location will be reopening on May 18th. “Guests returning to Cape May Café will find old favorites and new changes, along with its signature service and quality. The restaurant will serve breakfast and dinner, but Minnie’s Beach Bash Character Breakfast and the Seafood-and-More Dinner Buffet will not return at reopening”. Reservations can be made beginning Friday, May 7th. 

Tusker House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park

“The guest-favorite character dining location at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Tusker House Restaurant, will reopen this summer! During the modified character experience, guests will enjoy delicious family-style entrees inspired by the flavors of Africa. They can snap photos of Donald Duck and friends, dressed in their safari best as they promenade through the restaurant”. Reservation information will be available at a later date.

Temperature Screenings Phasing Out at Walt Disney World

According to the WDW Website:

“As this guidance continues to evolve, and with the support of local health and government officials, we are making some additional adjustments. Following the advice of the CDC and our local health officials, we will phase out onsite temperature screenings at Walt Disney World Resort for Cast Members beginning May 8 and Guests on May 16.”

Disney Park Pass System Booking Changes

Walt Disney World has updated its Park Pass system protocols. Now, if your plans change and your ticket is no longer valid for the date of your scheduled Park Pass, Disney will automatically cancel the reservation. This is in effort to maximize availability during, what is expected to be, a busy summer in the parks.

Disney Wish Grand Reveal Information

The Disney Wish has been officially revealed, as of Thursday, April 29th. During a half-hour grand reveal, Disney Cruise Line shared some exciting information on what to expect when the Wish hits the high seas. 

“When the Disney Wish sets sail in summer 2022, you’ll be immersed in Disney’s rich legacy of enchanting storytelling. We’re bringing to life the stories and characters of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars adventures like never before.”

“The Disney Wish will sail its maiden voyage — a five-night cruise to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay — on June 9, 2022, followed by an inaugural season of three- and four-night cruises to the same destinations from Port Canaveral, Florida”. The ship’s second voyage will be a DVC Member, 3-night sailing cruise to Castaway Cay.

Worlds of Marvel is the first-ever Marvel cinematic dining adventure, where you’ll play an interactive role in an action-packed Avengers mission that unfolds around you, complete with a worldly menu inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

1923, named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, is an elegant celebration of the company’s legacy, paying homage to the golden age of animation and offering a tasteful tribute to its Californian heritage with dishes inspired by the state’s unique fusion of cultural flavors."

As for adult only dining, there will be three exclusive locations, each themed after a character from Beauty and The Beast.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn will be reopening on July 2nd, 2021. While the DVC rooms within the resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Villas, have been open since June 2020, this indicates that the hotel-side of the resort will be reopening.

Disneyland Resort Ticketing and Park Reservations Go Live

On April 12 park reservations went live and on April 15 ticketing went live for Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.  Vicky talks about the “no earlier than” 8am time given, how long the process took and other dramatic details of the day.

Reflections Construction Trailers Removed

Many news sources have reported that permits have been filed with Orange County, Florida to "[r]emove office trailers from property" at the Reflections - A Disney Lakeside Lodge, which was to be the 16th DVC property.  Three trailer addresses are cited, all with addresses on World Drive within the city of Bay Lake.  It appears these trailers served as office space for crews leading  the construction effort on Reflections.  Some believe this signals “the final nail in the coffin for the project”.  With the removal of the support trailers, it seems like the project has been abandoned. While the long-closed River Country water park was demolished as part of the early work on this project, it seems like it will sit bare for now as Disney goes back to the drawing board for this prime piece of land along Bay Lake.

Direct Sales for Riviera in March account for only 59% of overall Direct Sales

In March 2021, Disney sold 120,218 DVC points for the resorts located at Walt Disney World, its best month for sales since the start of the pandemic However, sales are still nowhere near their pre-pandemic levels. In March 2020, Disney recorded 190,027 points in sales, 58.1% more than this month’s sales.

In March, Riviera sold 72,063 points, just under 60% of total sales. Next was 13 % from Copper Creek and 11.5% from SSR. Remaining resort at 4 % or less.

Our Advisors continue to address many complex situations for our Members who have had their vacations interrupted by the pandemic, which often requires more time and limits the total number of Members we can speak to.”

“Please know that we are working diligently to remedy this issue and recognize that we need to do better. We want to assure you that we are taking the necessary steps to help reduce call wait times, including hiring more Cast Members and investing in new phone systems that will enhance our customer service levels.

Disneyland Reopening Information

As previously announced, Disneyland will be reopening to California Residents on April 30th, 2021. The park will be reopening with health and safety measures and certain attractions and experiences will be modified or temporarily suspended to accommodate the limited capacity. The Disney Parks Blog has shared some additional information regarding these protocols: 

Theme Park Reservations 

To enter Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure park, both a theme park reservation and a valid admission ticket for the same park on the same date are required for guests ages 3 and up. Theme park reservations will be limited and subject to availability and, until further notice, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, in line with current state guidelines. 

Here are some key dates: 

“April 9: If you currently hold a theme park ticket, you can check available days for your 1-day ticket type beginning April 9 on Disneyland.com/ParksUpdates.

April 12: The theme park reservation system will open no earlier than 8 a.m. PT on April 12 and guests who already have valid theme park tickets may begin making park reservations.

April 15: Theme park ticket sales will resume no earlier than 8 a.m. PT on April 15, and guests without park tickets may begin purchasing tickets and making park reservations.”

Park Hours 

Daily park hours for both parks will be 9 AM to 7 PM. 

Parking

Parking will be available at the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals parking structures.

Ticket Pricing

Avengers Campus’ Grand Opening Set for June 4th

Avengers Campus’, the all-new Marvel-themed land at Disney California Adventure, will have its grand opening on June 4th, 2021. The land will be open in full force as new WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, Disney’s first attraction featuring Spider-Man, is set to make its debut. Also, Pym Test Kitchen - “a food innovation science lab where the food and drinks tell a story” - will open with the land and will also offer mobile ordering through the Disneyland app.

Aulani Character Breakfast Returns

Aulani’s character breakfast at Makahiki Restaurant will be returning on May 7th, 2021. It will be available seven days a week, with Mickey and friends appearing on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Throughout May, the dining experience will be limited to guests of the resort only. Reservations will open on April 26 and can be made by calling Aulani Resort at (808) 674-6200.

Walt Disney World Face Covering Policy Update

Walt Disney World has updated its face-covering policy. Now, guests may take a photo without having to wear a face-covering given that they are stationary and physically distanced from others. Here are the official guideline

“DisneylandForward” Plans

According to the Orange County Register, “Disneyland has unveiled long-term plans for theme park, retail and parking expansion. DisneylandForward is a multiyear public planning effort with the City of Anaheim to update existing development approvals that will allow Disney to meaningfully invest in Anaheim for years to come and meet the future demands in entertainment.”

CCV Direct Price Increase

Copper Creek Villas & Cabins has seen a price increase when purchasing directly through Disney Vacation Club. The price increase was $5.00, per point, which puts the resort at $225, per point, total.

Update on MagicMobile

MagicMobile is now live for Apple users. The feature can be found on the MDX application under “Disney Magic Mobile Pass”. There are a variety of themes to choose from when selecting your digital card, including a DVC Member exclusive one. 

As a reminder, MagicMobile offers all of the same functions as a MagicBand - just on your mobile device and is currently only available for Apple users (will expand later on).

Anaheim’s Disneyland Parks Reopening on April 30

Disneyland in Anaheim, CA has announced that their two theme parks, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, will be reopening on April 30th on a limited basis. Following state guidelines, the parks will open at a 15% capacity and will only be accepting California residents, initially. While there has been no information regarding tickets and pricing, it has been announced that park attendance will be managed through a reservations system; similar to the system used at Walt Disney World. The parks are expected to open with many popular attractions, including the reimagined Snow White’s Enchanted Wish which will be available for guests for the first time. It was also noted that the all-new Marvel land, Avengers Campus, at Disney California Adventure will not be open during this phased reopening period. In addition to limited capacity, certain experiences that draw large crowds, such as parades and nighttime spectaculars, will not be available on opening day and will return at a later time. However, “new magic” will be created within health and safety guidelines.

Disney Cruise Line Releases 2022 Summer Itineraries

Disney Cruise Line has released its Summer 2022 itineraries; however, some of the biggest news released is that the Disney Dream will be receiving a new port in June of 2022 - Miami, Florida - for Bahamas and Caribbean sailings. Other highlights include the  majestic locales in the Mediterranean and Greek Isles, Europe and the British Isles, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Alaska. The following are the dates when bookings open, depending on your membership tier:

March 22, 2021: PlatinumMarch 23, 2021: Platinum and GoldMarch 24, 2021: Platinum, Gold, Silver, & DVC MembersMarch 25, 2021: General Public

MagicMobile Service Coming Soon

In addition to MagicBands, Walt Disney World will be releasing a new option, MagicMobile, which serves the same functions as the band but on your mobile device. Guests utilizing this service will be able to create a “Disney MagicMobile Pass” through the My Disney Experience app and add it to their device’s digital wallet. This roll-out will begin exclusively on Apple devices, such as an iPhone or Apple Watch, and then expand to other smart devices. For guests who do not want to use this service, MagicBands and Key to the World cards will still be available for use as before and, as of now, will not be adjusted.
