Prison is a b*tch. Silhouette City is a b*tch. A female dog is a b*tch. Mark Nado has dealt with them all. Probably in reverse order from that list. Mr. Nado, though, has taken all those challenges and stuffed them into his tome that details, and I do mean DETAILS, in fiction (I think), a hard life as a detective that he has lived in a city he clearly has a complicated love for, even after it has slapped him repeatedly about the face and thighs. Though he doesn’t recognize its validity, we probe the psychology revealed in Mark’s clear obsessions with tough women, fancy portraits of dogs, and a city whose sidewalks he has probably laid down on too many times. Because he loves it and because someone made him do it with their fist.

In this, the final episode of 2021, we talk with author Casey Bloom about his neo-noir book The Detective and the Man with the Gun. Mr. Bloom (sorry, that’s his father. Please call him Casey) fills in the yawning chasm between the seeming paltriness of his words on the page (in your ears) and their intended meaning (that he possibly only accidentally intended). If you’ve always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, this is an equally awe inspiring leap into the abyss.

This week on the podcast we delve into the realm of High Fantasy. Not high high, like stoner fantasy, though no judgements if you want to heighten the mood while you indulge in the delicious work of this week’s author. After all Gandalf enjoyed a toke. No, this week it is fantasy of the swords and maidens type, brought to you by a disarmingly down to earth author with incredible subtexts: Dorothea Saphen in her book The Nail Trim Trilogy. I talk to Dorothea about how I discovered the super religious undertones of her tale, which on the surface, if you didn’t dig like I did, you might think was all about bodices and battles! In this week’s episode Dwayne talks about Feminine-ism. He learns about womens in a way that has never quite permeated his admittedly thick skull (verified at birth by CAT scan. There’s actual extra bone up there. Great for stag like expressions of dominance in a toxic masculine world, but less so for allowing 5G signals to reach the chip in his brain). Author Andrea Twitty has written a subtle metaphoric novel on lady vampires asserting their own power in the metaphoric plane phallus in the metaphoric clouds (symbolizing cotton balls which symbolize the oppressive makeup world and therefore removing it…gently). It’s episode 3! (Take that hate-uhs). In this week’s installment of the podcast we tackle the dicey subject of American History as we read from the book Tangible Harvest: A Beginning and discuss it’s recontextualisations of American origin myths with the author Jason-Carter-Ford.
