Dwayne Johnson’s Maui Wig in Live-Action 'Moana' Won't Change

Despite widespread internet mockery and social media backlash over Dwayne Johnson’s voluminous Maui wig in the first trailer for Disney's live-action Moana, the studio reportedly has no plans to make any major creative pivots or CGI alterations[5][6]. Director Thomas Kail defended the practicalities of the heavy hairpiece, explaining that the wig had to behave realistically and have "lift" when soaked in water during the movie's many oceanic scenes[7]. Johnson spent over two hours each day getting into the wig and a 40-pound prosthetic bodysuit to bring the demigod to life
