I had the opportunity to have a conversation with US Sen. Alex Padilla. He shares his inspiring story, talks about what went down at that Noem press conference, and gives us all some words of motivation that you really don’t want to miss.

Padilla also called our Contact Congress campaign the “real work of democracy,” saying that “every single [call and letter] matters.” And that’s why we’re contacting Senators and Reps. thousands of times per day. Along with our enormous social media campaigns.

I got the chance to catch up with my good friend and legendary activist Jess Craven from Chop Wood, Carry Water. She was on the ground this week in LA for the anti-Trump demonstrations, and has some crucial updates for anyone planning on attending protests—especially tomorrow.“I’ll never forget what this week has been like ... I feel deeply inspired by the love this community is showing,” Jess told me. “Tomorrow could be the largest protest in American history.”

They just don’t care—they’re chicken.”

I thought it would be a good way for everyone to refresh after another long week of dealing with Musk and Trump’s nonsense.

Recently, I had the privilege of doing a live chat here on Substack with Anne Applebaum, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and staff writer at The Atlantic. We discussed the alarming tyranny of the Trump Administration, as well as the glaring parallels with autocratic regimes throughout history.

Applebaum warned: “Democracies often fail not with coups, but when elected leaders manipulate state institutions.” Applebaum also explained that Trump’s determination to politicize and weaponize the federal government is “how most democracies fail. Elected leaders unlevel the playing field, not with coups—but through manipulation.”

We talked about Ukraine, Russian propaganda, and heard Anne’s unique perspective on today’s political upheaval. Applebaum also urged us to stay vigilant and proactive, saying: “Stay engaged. Call your Congressman, call your Senators … and make a plan to be involved in local politics.”
