Any seasoned dividend investor will be familiar with dividend reinvestment plans or DRIPs as they are abbreviated. Today with fractional shares and zero commissions dividend reinvestment plans have lost some of their appeal, or have they? I was thinking about this a few days ago and decided that I would share my thoughts on the matter. I used to be a huge fan of dividend reinvestment plans, they served a very useful purpose a few years ago when the majority of market trades cost money. Dripping was the easiest, fastest and cheapest way to invest your dividend income back into the market. Today you can invest as little as a dollar into almost any stock you like so the benefit dividend reinvestment plans once offered has definitely shrunk, at least from my perspective. I do not use any dividend reinvestment plans today because I think for me personally it is better to self direct where my dividend income should be invested. Whether this works out in my favor in the long run time will only tell. I hope you enjoy!
