Investors are generally overconfident, and to large extent rank their skills above average. Professor Christoph Merkle from Aarhus University shares his research about expectations of retail investors regarding upside potential and downside protection within a given and a self chosen portfolio. Some retail investors expect to outperform the market by four percentage points a year, without adding additional down side risk.
