Zach Robinson is CEO of the Centre for Effective Altruism, where he helps build a movement of people using their time, money, and resources to make the world measurably better. Previously, he worked as a researcher at Open Philanthropy and as a management consultant at Bain.

Zach Robinson always questioned why arbitrary factors like geography or appearance determine who people care about. As a queer Black man raised in Omaha, Nebraska, the idea that someone born near him was inherently more valuable than someone across the world never made sense.

He spent years feeling stuck in management consulting, helping privileged companies with multimillion-dollar problems. He craved more meaningful work, but couldn’t see how to turn his values into action.

Through effective altruism, Zach realized that the beliefs he'd always held didn't have to just live in his head, he could actually use them to change the world.

Sjir Hoeijmakers is the CEO of Giving What We Can, the global organization promoting effective giving and the 10% Pledge, which recently celebrated the 10,000 10% Pledger mark. He has a background in impact evaluation and non-profit entrepreneurship, and served as GWWC’s Director of Research immediately prior to becoming their CEO. Sjir is a long-time pledger himself as well, and currently donates 50% of his income to high-impact charities across various causes.

Julia Wise is the Community Health Lead at the Centre for Effective Altruism, where she helps support a global movement of people using their time and resources to improve the world. She was president of Giving What We Can from 2017–2020 and serves on the board of GiveWell.

Julia recognized early that she wanted to use her resources to address global inequity, but she lacked both community and analytical frameworks to guide her efforts.

When she discovered effective altruism in the early 2010s, her world opened up. She found something she'd been missing: a community that shared her values and provided rigorous tools for maximizing impact across donations, career choices, and advocacy.

Lewis Bollard leads Open Philanthropy's Farm Animal Welfare program, where he recommends grants to reduce the suffering of animals on factory farms. Before joining Open Philanthropy, he worked as a corporate attorney.

As a teenager, Lewis felt helpless in the face of factory farming. Then he discovered effective altruism: a framework for stepping back and asking which approaches actually work.

Through his evidence-based grantmaking, he’s supported corporate campaigns that have secured cage-free commitments from over 2,000 companies globally. That's over 200 million animals in better conditions.

In this talk, Jeff Sebo argues that humanity should include all potentially significant beings in our moral community, with transformative implications for our lives and societies. He then examines a variety of questions that humanity will confront regarding creation ethics and population ethics. For example, should we accept the “rebugnant conclusion” that large groups of small beings matter more than small groups of large beings? Either way, what follows for our policies and priorities, at present and in the future?Jeff Sebo is Associate Professor of Environmental Studies, Affiliated Professor of Bioethics, Medical Ethics, Philosophy, and Law, Director of the Center for Environmental and Animal Protection, Director of the Center for Mind, Ethics, and Policy, and Co-Director of the Wild Animal Welfare Program at New York University. His research focuses on animal minds, ethics, and policy; AI minds, ethics, and policy; and global health and climate ethics and policy.He is the author of The Moral Circle and Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves and co-author of Chimpanzee Rights and Food, Animals, and the Environment. He is also a board member at Minding Animals International, an advisory board member at the Insect Welfare Research Society, and a senior affiliate at the Institute for Law & AI. In 2024 Vox included him on its Future Perfect 50 list of "thinkers, innovators, and changemakers who are working to make the future a better place."
