Blount County has many free events in the spring for you to laugh and learn a little history. These are put on by the Smoky Mountain storytellers. There are several members of this group who provide entertainment.. whether it be fact or fiction when it comes to East Tennessee. Some are comical, and some are ghostly.

The group is made up of folks who love telling stories about our rich heritage. Janice Brooks-Headrick shared some stories with ET Now's host Michele Silva and the listeners,. She also shared some history on how the group got started and events families can attend in the County this season.

Development Director for the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley joined Michele Silva to talk about several events coming up to benefit the shelter. There are Kids Spring Break Camps which are March 19-22: the times, ages, courses, description and pricing.  It's Kitten Season: there are showers being held at the shelter, the needs how you can get it to them even on line! and how to adopt a kitty or even a dog. The Ageless Hall of Fame needs your nominations. Tim Howell,the CEO of Schas, explains how the senior service organization will recognize and honor 16 individuals, age 60 or older, who demonstrates their care for their community and its citizens.

Howell says these people are nominated by their communities and the nominations are reviewed and selected by a committee made up of each of the counties’ leaders and human service agencies that serve the East Tennessee community.

Individuals must be age 60 or older. Individual must reside in one of the following counties: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Cocke, Claiborne, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier or Union.

There will be a celebration of the 16 honorees at a luncheon on Thursday, May 16th at Bridgewater Place in Knoxville.

The Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) in Blount County is a non-profit organization that provides vital services six counties in Southeast Tennessee and is funded totally by the contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations, and churches within the community. Executive Director, Valerie Millsapps shares the PRC's resources for families as well as fundraising campaigns like the Baby Bottle Campaign. 

The PRC is located in Maryville. It's a licensed medical clinic that provides pregnancy testing, ultrasound exams, as well as other  testing. They also offer support programs that touch on the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those facing difficult decisions regarding unplanned pregnancies. Keep your heart beating and pumping for a long healthy life! Heart Disease is the number one killer of women and all Americans. February is Heart Month! Blair Ware with the American Heart Association of Knoxville gives us the symptoms of heart disease, risk factors, prevention tips including where to find recipes and help on heart health care, and how the public can help spread awareness about the disease.  Also, Matt Sigmon, owner of Fitness Together Knoxville explains his mission for teaming up with the AHA, and he shares tips on achieving a "fit" heart.

A special night out at the Press Room in Knoxville to raise

money for the Knox Foundation. A non-profit organization named after an infant

Knox who passed away to SIDS. In an effort to possibly save other babies, the foundation

wants to outfit them with Owlet Smart Socks. Kelsey Baird is Knox’s aunt and on

the board of directors for the foundation. She explains what the sock monitors

are, how they work, the cost, the benefits, where they can be purchased and why

they feel these are important pieces of technology for new families. Kelsey

also shares the details of the fundraiser and how the money raised will provide

A local prom ministry is teaming up with Chick-fil-A to

outfit less fortunate girls for the prom with dresses and accessories, for free.

Kristina Killebrew with Second Chance Prom Ministry out of Maryville is calling

all ladies to donate their gently used formal dresses, and accessories. This

includes shoes, handbags and jewelry! This year you can drop these items off at

area Chick-fil-A’s until February 16

can pick out dresses and accessories and get all services like hair and spray

tans February 23 rd at Rio revolution Church, regardless their need, no

questions asked and no requirements. However, girls must sign up on line prior

Dollywood is hiring 500 seasonal employees for the upcoming spring and summer

The Tennessee Veterans Business Association is preparing for its 8th Annual TVBA Keynote Dinner, Business Expo and Veteran Job Fair. This year special guests are country music's Lee Greenwood and Lt. Colonel Oliver North. Michele Silva  talks to Lee about East Tennessee and when he lived here and owned a theater. The advocate promotes veterans and job  opportunities and how important the TVBA has become. It's also a fundraiser and a place to obtain resources and information.
