  • Andreas Almgren: Breaking European Records & Medalling on the World Stage

We’re joined by one of the most versatile and dominant distance runners in the world right now — Sweden’s Andreas Almgren.

A two-time European record holder (5000m – 12:44, Half Marathon – 58:41), former European 10km record holder (26:45 x2), 10-time national champion, and World Championship bronze medallist over 10,000m — Almgren has quietly built one of the most impressive CVs in global distance running.

But what makes this episode so fascinating is how he’s done it.

In this conversation, we go deep into:

    • Transitioning from 1:45 800m runner → world-class 5k / 10k / half marathon athlete

    • Breaking multiple European records across distances in a single season

    • Winning a World Championship medal in Tokyo and handling the pressure on the biggest stage

    • Training largely solo — and what that looks like day-to-day physically and mentally

    • How he periodises training across events from 3k → half marathon

    • Key sessions, lactate control, and what underpins his consistency

We also explore the Swedish philosophy behind it all — from Fika and Lagom to a lifestyle built around balance, longevity, and performance.

    Plus:

    • Shoe rotation (and any AlphaFly 4 insight 👀)

    • Nutrition, recovery, and supplements (Nomio vs bicarb)

    • Whether the marathon is on the horizon

    • And the biggest mistakes he sees everyday runners making

This is a masterclass in modern distance running — from one of the most intelligent and composed athletes in the sport.

Tim Vincent: 2:09PB, fresh off representing Australia in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last September, excited about making his Major Marathon debut.

Jake Smith: Back to his best with a 61:50 showing at Barcelona Half, returning to London to try and improve on his 2:11 last year.

Jake Barraclough aka @RanToJapan: YouTube sensation who will do absolutely anything that it takes to close the gap to the other boys. Will we see any 300km weeks as he tries to improve on his 2:14PB from Tokyo.

We hear about what the lads have been up to in the past few weeks as Tim and Jake Smith both raced half marathons.

RanToJapan is teasing us whether he will make the Tokyo start line this weekend - will he?

We discuss the different coaching set ups and backgrounds the lads have, all having different sponsors.

We talk about peak mileage and where training might head to in the coming weeks, before closing it out with a 'Race Readiness Score' and an Accountability Action to take into the next episode.

  • EDP53: Keely's Indoor WR / Castellon 10k & European Records / Osaka Marathon

Episode 53 opens in classic Easy Double fashion — bird attacks, gym chat and a brief debate about whether anyone should ever run a marathon in jeans — before we get into one of the biggest weeks of distance running so far this year.

We dive deep into Keely Hodgkinson’s indoor world record, unpacking not just the time but the authority of the performance. Has she shifted from championship racer to era-defining middle-distance force? What does this mean for the global 800m picture heading outdoors — and who, realistically, can challenge her right now?

From there we head to Castellón 10k, where the roads absolutely lit up. European records, outrageous depth and another reminder that road 10k running has entered a different stratosphere. We break down the significance of the performances, the pacing dynamics, and whether the roads are now producing more compelling narratives than the track.

We also analyse the Osaka Marathon, looking at execution, pacing decisions and what these early-season marathon performances tell us about championship builds later in the year. Who looked controlled? Who looked aggressive? And what does it signal for the rest of 2026?

Listener Questions are addressed with some interesting reflections.

YouTube diaries is dedicated to one of the biggest winners at Osaka Marathon, USA's Ethan Shuley who ran courageously and outrageously to go #6 all time for the USA.

Plus, we preview a massive week ahead for Easy Double — two major interviews dropping (including a current Australian record holder) and the launch of a London Marathon mini-series.

As always: serious running analysis, zero ego, a few strong opinions and plenty of sideways banter.
