I have cast-iron pots and pans from my Great Grandmother (Nana)--and I have purchased some as well. (Nana's fryer makes great chicken.) I've been to flea markets in Pennsylvania where the vendors' primary surplus is cast-iron.I do most of my cooking with cast-iron.

I enjoy perusing a museum's (home) design/decorative art collection to look not so much as at the flatware and place settings of history past, but at the kitchen equiptment used in everyday living.

Some people believe that the kitchen is a station filled with unglamorous tasks, while others contend that a place setting is, well, exactly what is stated--a place setting of subservience: effete and well-mannered, of course.

Conceptually, if there is a difference, the difference is in attitude: servile chore as opposed to dutiful obligation, emboldened pride as opposed to restrained honor.

Yes, in the kitchen, there is business process management (BPM), a process that takes into consideration steps, technique and timing. Whenever preparing a meal from a recipe or from scratch, success or failure begins and ends with the process involved. When substituting ingredients, an awareness of process in comparison to the improvisation is required.

I learned a lot from my fast-food job. The business skills learned while working in a fast-food environment ("super-size" in the later part of the 20th Century) is like the entrepreneurial skills learned while working as a paperboy ("get your paper here" in the early part of the 20th Century). Some people view working in fast-food as an embarrassment, but what's wrong with learning how to be efficient and how to up-sell?
