Eclectic Soul

...

I just moved in a farm for a WorkAway experience.

I was supposed to find a part-time job in Bristol from mid-March but the Universe probably wanted me to end up where I am right now.

I'm precisely in Congresbury, 20km south-west of Bristol.

I am giving 4-5 hours a day from Monday to Friday in exchange of accommodation and food.

It's interesting to be in this day job situation after nine years.

Work at the farm starts at 9am so I wake up at 5.30 to do my morning routine including creating a new track.

Then I work about 1.5 hours on finishing music before feeding the animals and go on with the tasks I'm requested to do.

I got my daily routine on a sheet and calendar app so my day and is well organised and I can be satisfied of my progress at the end of the day.

It's nice to start the mandatory not-so-fun work with a sense of accomplishment so early in the day.

I'm staying in a caravan on my own and I love it.

This confined space is somehow inspiring to me.

I don't know how long I'll stay here, cause my values clashes with the farm's activity (they gonna get sheep to sell their meat).

Plus, not least, my host is quite inconsiderate and seems to have partly the Diogenes syndrome

I'm already looking for another WorkAway opportunity with purpose like collective creative work and permaculture.

I got a couple leads.

I'll probably walk from one place to the other.

Approx. 10-12 hours.

Might also ride my mini-cruiser board.

So that means I must leave behind me some stuff, at a friend's place in Bristol. And have him ship me some of those things.

My plan is to stay in the UK until the end of September.

Then the idea is to move to Southern Italy in my homeland for a year, after stopping a while in Switzerland and France to meet family and friends.

I had the joy to discover that they did a TV adaptation of my favourite books, the tetralogy Les Jeunes Filles written by Henry de Montherlant.

I've included some samples from that film.

We mostly hear the voice of Jean Piat, interpreting Pierre Costals.

Special mention for Bonobo this month, as the – to me – massively influential album Black Sands celebrates its 10 years.

I play one track from that album as well as a bonus track from the Black Sands Remixed album.

Greetings from Northern Yorkshire!

Seems to be a beautiful place, though I don't really see much of it as I'm exclusively focused on my music projects, finishing loads of tracks and creating other kind of content.

I'm staying with my friend Sam in the property where his grand-parents used to live, before some other people will write a new chapter of this house.

Yesterday I finished a new track called Scarabée Égyptien to be released as part of a Various Artists compilation on Diffract Records.

I'm happy to share the Tracklist with people like Mononome, my buddies Nectvr and ea, as well as Dirty Art.

You might have noticed how I love to add either movie dialogs, field recordings or some bits of private conversations I have on the phone or in real life.

In this one, you'll hear myself talking on the phone with my younger niece.

She'll be 9 in March.

She couldn't believe I went to England because: "it's not possible. You don't know how to speak English."

She's creative.

We can't hear that part, but she started the call pretending she was the police and that I've been flashed driving too fast.

I took the picture from the covert art in Portishead.

The walking man is my dear friend Barnaby Carter.

You can hear the track They’ll Come With Joy from his first album at the very end of this mix.

He's finishing his second full-length, to be released in the Summer hopefully.

I’d like to express my gratitude towards Barny for hosting me in Bristol while I organise my new life in the UK.

I feel that this city is a perfect home for my music and overall creativity, and I’m lucky to have a good friend in this part of the world.

I actually got to know Barnaby because he discovered Eclectic Soul back in 2012 and sent me an e-mail to share his appreciation.

Damn, it's been eight years already!

Enjoy the music, keep your mind and body fit!

Celebrating my first two weeks in UK for my new life with a brand new Eclectic Soul!

Hoping there won’t be any problem for me to stay here with that Brexit thing, cause this country is probably the best home for my music.

We got three tracks from last Mac Miller posthumous album.

I can get emotional when I listen to him, thinking he’s gone so soon.

Plus, he died on my birthday.

Tycho plays as the second track, his last release being the first music I was listening on my headphones in UK.

I remember walking at night to the underground at the end of the Northern line, under a light rain.

I love this dreamy feeling when walking around a new place, not knowing at all what’s after the corner of the street.

Michael Kiwanuka’s last eponymous album (he used just his last name) is what I was listening last night while doing grocery.

Fantastic release.

UK’s Elsa Hewitt returns in the show with her “experimental dream-pop” and the track Mermaid.

I’m in love with her sound.

Towards the end, you’ll hear a track of mine that I did quickly on January 24, using a free sample pack.

I just edited a few things to play it in the show to my better taste.

The last two tracks are unreleased bits from my man Nectvr.

Many tracks from two of the best albums of 2019, by the enigmatic band Sault and maybe the best female hip hop artist right now, Sampa the Great.

I'm glad to say I'm opening the show with a track of mine, relesed in my last EP on my brand new label Kamînar Records.

I'm relocating to Bristol or London by the end of the Winter, let me know if you live in the UK !

Stories behind this show: eclecticsoul.fm/57

50% of this show comes from music suggested by my friend Victorien. I love my friends.

No hip hop this time, which is pretty rare. Also just two tracks with vocals, from Thundercat and Carla dal Forno.

It's a special one. So much love in it. Including the love I can't give to someone.

All yours now.

This month I'll be spending 11 days and possibly more in France.

Back in Ardèche visiting friends I met in July via CouchSurfing.

And hopefully I'll be able to go in the area of Avignon to meet up with a girl I met last spring on that road trip to Southern Spain.

She's in a band and sings beautifully. We'd like to collaborate. Let's see what happens.
