Eclectic Soul

For anyone wondering, I'm trying to make my way through the toughest time in my life.

Massive mental fatigue due to severe depression and poor sleep for months.

To say the least.

[A situation that – I figured a few months after posting this – was caused by a burn-out and high anxiety. And having such a sensitive nervous system.]

Sorry about the delay after the previous episode.

I know it's too long.

I don't think it was such a good idea to stop listening to new music.

I did still, but much less than previously.

I wonder if my down times have a correlation with my relation to music? Or maybe it's just turning 30 causing a crisis.

Anyways, don't want to write too much, it's not about me, but the music.

There lies the truth.

Much gratitude to the people reaching out and encouraging me to keep doing this.

Very happy to play a track from the beautiful Melissa Kassab's first album who's voice moves me since 2011 when I first met her.

You can't miss either Khruangbin's album The Universe Smiles Upon You.

Two tracks from the Texas trio here, plus their main source of inspiration with two Thai Funk gems.

I'm disconnecting from the Internet for a week.

I leave you with ES41, featuring bits from the very interesting movie The man from Earth.

Without even doing it in purpose,

a theme came up itself as by magic,

totally in tune with many thoughts and reflexions I'm having recently: Time.

I’m happy to share with you a new episode just before going in Algarve for a vipassana retreat.

10 days of noble silence and meditation.

Beside the benefits for the waking life, I’m also very curious to see how it will affect the dream world.

No information intake for ten days (except the instructions), no outward expression of my emotions and thoughts.

I suppose I’ll face myself as never before.

What will be the content of my dreams?

Will I be hearing/making music?

Papâ: "I did the podcast for Gelivan this time and I felt like doing something musically special.

Rather than selecting stuff he usually plays and that I love I choosed some of the tracks I recently liked, discovered or rediscovered from a wide musical horizon.

As I usually do it's unmixxed.

Enjoy it raw with good headphones.

Do you ever have this feeling of being in a dream, except you (kinda) know you’re not actually sleeping?

I did, many times since I started this new chapter of my life, especially every time I was swimming in the sea.

This is probably due to the highest level of freedom I reached so far.

Putting myself in the position of doing whatever I want.

Not knowing where I would sleep in the following days.

Not worrying about anything.

Embracing what life’s flow is bringing.

Accepting – events, everything that’s not under my control.

Knowing what is in my control.

Getting to know myself every day a bit more.

And loving myself just the way I am.

Like nobody else.

As weird as I can think to be.

Loving this weirdness.

Living with myself.

Expanding my comfort zone.

Doing crazy, new things.

Changing my mind.

Following my guts.

It’s been four weeks in my nomad life now.

Since the last episode, I spent two weeks in Valdipino, hosted by a 60-year-old man who lived for ten years as a street artist in Italy.

He wrote a little book I enjoyed so much that I’m translating it in French.

It was a special time for me there, in such a quiet setting,

surrounded by green, hearing more birds than humans, and having this deep connection with Ari,

many interesting talks about Italy’s history and the world, life and all,

as well as spending some time with the fellow travellers who stopped by during those days.

"You'll never get it, if you don't slow down my friend."

This show, like the previous one, has been made on the road.

I started it in Geneva on Monday 9th May and did most of the work in Ticino, southern Italian part of Switzerland.

I'm publishing this from Valdipino, a little town in Liguria, Italy. Courtesy of the CouchSurfing community.

The surrounding have been highly inspiring – between lakes and green mountains – and I’ll be back soon to enjoy more of the nature.

I’ll remember working on it in the break of a walk in the heights of Lugano.

I found a nice little garden with a stone table and benches, and green around me.

I sat there and cooked what you can listen here.

I’m always more and more fascinated by dreams.

Dreams, among other things, are the proof that we are (highly) creative by nature.

We’re always in a creative state.

The dialogs in the intro and further are from two different France Inter radio shows:

Dans tes rêves, 30-04-2016, France Inter

Sur les épaules de Darwin - Cette étoffe sur laquelle naissent les rêves 01

Just came back from a very very inspiring week in Lille.

I met beautiful people, lived new and interesting experiences, enjoyed every single moment.

There’s something special in Lille’s atmosphere.

Maybe it’s due to the fact that Northern France is the poorest region in the country,

so there’s actually a lot of creativity and lots of interesting things going on.

When my CouchSurfer host told me about this poverty, I instantly made the connection with South Italy.

Not that I could see it myself, but the weekend before I was in Turin and my host told me that there are lots of artists

in the South and that it’s apparently a good place to be for creatives.

I’d like to live in South Italy for a while and meet locals and young artists.

I’d also like to live in Lille for a while.

Right now I’m back in Geneva until the end of April.

Then I leave my flat and start vagabonding around Italy.

Not sure what’s going to happen exactly, where I’m going and all.

Going with the flow! Sure thing is that I’ll keep focusing on doing what I love.

The show starts with a dialog from French movie Narco and the credit song from the beautiful Taiwanese film The Assassin.

Props to Paxton Fettel for sampling Flight of The Conchords, my most favorite TV Show beside Breaking Bad.

Love to my buddy Ben for sharing the infectious Tempovision, Kay Rubenz for playing 2Pac’s Do For Love some night and Audrey for telling me the title, my man Eddy for playing TM Juke in Lausanne and allow me to discover another amazing album, myself for listening with more sensitive ears Paul White’s LP and finally feeling how good and special it is, Moté for hosting me in Lille and sharing among other things the anime Samurai Champoo which uses Nujabes' music as theme song, my dear Manu for sharing Fleetwood Mac and Dave DK while we were doing indoor climbing, Mark Kelly for his wonderful new album that I still need to listen properly but already know it’s a master piece.

Eclectic Soul is all of you.

Eclectic Soul is like a long photography of my life, full of beautiful memories.

I’m glad you’re part of it.
