Everybody knows that murder is wrong. But God wants our righteousness to go beyond not murdering anyone. Jesus teaches us that even fostering anger towards others can bring judgement into our lives. Jesus gives us a dire warning for how we treat others, our spouse, kids, parents, neighbors, etc. So how can we address our anger in healthy ways? How do we say the hard things that need to be said without bringing judgement upon ourselves. In this message we will look at Jesus’ teaching on anger and discover the key to overcoming an angry heart.

Many people, including people in the church, try to get to God their own way, through their own good works. Try to be a good citizen, not break any major laws, look like a good Christian…at least in front of others. But Jesus challenges that kind of thinking. Jesus knows that such thinking won’t bring us peace in the midst of all the darkness pressing in on us. If we want to experience the blessings of the kingdom, we’ve got to approach it Jesus’ way. In this message, we will discuss what God demands from us and how it is the key to true peace in a broken world. It’s not as hard as you might think.

Some things just seem obvious. Like when Jesus calls us to be salt and light. That seems like Christianity 101 stuff. But sometimes we forget. Sometimes we get it wrong. As we look back on Jesus’ teaching from the Sermon on the Mount about being salt and light, we will discuss what the original hearers would have heard and how we can translate that meaning to us today.

We all should desire God’s blessing. But how do we truly experience the blessed life? When Jesus kicks off the Sermon On The Mount, He begins by giving us a list of attitudes that ought to characterize His followers. While this list counters everything the world teaches, Jesus says it is the true path to blessing. Do you desire the blessed life? In this message we will discuss how Edinbrook can better embody the beatitudes and experience more of the blessings Jesus offers us.

Often times we want to lead people into a relationship with Jesus because they are experiencing a problem in life. This is good because Jesus really does help us with our problems. However, Jesus helps us with a problem much bigger than the difficulties and challenges we face in this world. Jesus helps us with a problem that affects where we will end up after we die. Nothing is more important than this. In this message we will look at why sharing our faith is so important and discover that maybe it’s easier than we think.

It’s easy to lump the Bible in with other books or to think that it’s nothing more than a book that can offer some good advice for life. But the Bible is special; it stands alone compared to any other book in the world. The Bible is God communicating directly with us. Therefore, it has the potential to powerfully transform our lives and breathe life into us. Yet for many of us, the Bible can be difficult to read. In this message we will see proof that the Bible is God’s Word and what is first needed on our part to experience its power. Hint: it’s not reading it.

Many times we try praying and give up too soon, or we find ourselves praying the same wimpy prayers over and over again. We forget that God wants us to pray big, audacious prayers and trust Him with the results. But what if God isn’t listening to our prayers? Seriously. Many people don’t know how to pray prayers that have power, prayers that reach God’s ears. In this message we will discuss the three ways God answers prayer and how to pray in such a way that God will hear you. We will also be prayed over for the new year and celebrate communion together.

What if there’s more to your faith journey? More to walking with God through this thing called life. What if this year you saw growth in areas you didn’t think possible? The church can play a big part in that growth if you understand what it means to belong to the church. For a lot of us, we need to stop going to church, and start being the church.

This time of year can be anything but peaceful. We know this all too well if we have sat through rush hour traffic during a snowstorm or realized that we forgot to get grandma's other present and its December 23rd. The Christmas season can also be difficult times for relationships or the reminder of broken relationships. So it is not a surprise that we don't always think of using the word peaceful to describe it. But we have a Savior in Jesus who is called the Prince of Peace, and he is offering us his peace. Join us Sunday as we talk about how to find peace even in the chaos.
