Look at the group of miscellaneous misfits Jesus personally chose to follow him,

learn from him, and later lead the Way. There are many reasons why this group

should have been in constant conflict, but Jesus brought peace and purpose to

this band of brothers, leaving us model for pursuing unity in the church.

Jesus identified himself as the One sent by God to build bridges between God and people who are hurt and hopeless. Following Jesus’ example, our lives should be focused on making meaningful connections between those in need and the One who can meet our greatest need, our heavenly Father.

Jesus dwelt among us and died for us in order to bridge the unreachable gap between sinful people and a holy God. By going to the cross, Jesus made it possible for us to be forgiven and to live forever in the presence of God.

Disruptions often reveal our values and priorities. In Luke 5, four men grabbed a corner of a disabled man’s cot and went to heroic efforts to get him to Jesus. What some saw as a major disruption, Jesus saw as an opportunity to bring hope and healing to someone in need.

Paul’s life was completely misguided until a dramatic disruption by Jesus opened Paul’s

eyes to see the truth about Jesus and his own purpose in life. Sometimes it takes a

divine disruption for us to see what is most important.

As Joseph looked back over the difficult circumstances of his life, he faithfully concluded, "What you meant for harm, God intended for good and the saving of many lives." What perspective do you have on the disruptions in your life?

Jesus was challenged by the Pharisees for not keeping their traditions. When our traditions are interrupted, we often get defensive. But as important as traditions might be, Jesus calls us back to the heart of the matter.

Nehemiah's way of life was interrupted when God "put it in his heart" to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. What is God putting in your heart?

God disrupted Abraham's life with a call to leave behind the familiar and step out in faith. Once likely an idol worshiper, Abraham responded to God's call and became the father of many nations. What is God calling you to leave behind?

God gave lowly Esther social standing and influence as royalty. But her life got interrupted when someone asked that her position of prominence be used as a platform for saving God’s people. How did she respond? How do you respond when God asks you to leverage what He’s given you to do His will?
