  • Parent Volunteers: From Punam's Children's Perspective

Ever wonder what your children think of you volunteering in schools? How does it impact them? What do other students think?  What are the advantages/disadvantages of having a parent involved in schools?

Punam's children, Maya, Kavi, Lyla, and India (MILK), come into the studio to share their experience of having 2 active parents in their schools. It was an eye opening conversation with them where we all learned a lot from each other (and a fair amount of sidebars that has been left in for your listening pleasure).

Parents walk a tightrope of being 'too involved' and 'not enough'. The Saxena children's experience can help us be more cognizant of our own purpose and desires for becoming a volunteer.

  • Allison Loves Math

You are either a math person or you're not. I loved math and planned to minor in it until my college professor said that 2+2 did not equal 4. I immediately dropped the class and that was the end of that.
In our episode this week, Allison Dillard joins us in the studio. Allison is an Adjunct Professor in Math at Irvine Valley College, a mom of 3, and the author of the books, Crush Math Now and Raise Your Math Grade. Her parenting membership, Raise a Math Person, helps parents to set their kids up for long-term success in math, STEM, school and life.

She loves math and shares how we can teach our children to love it, too. Her practical approach to helping our children will not only make them excited about math, but you, too! You can get Allison's free parenting mini-course, 7 Secrets that Parents of Successful Math Students Know, at allisonlovesmath.com.

  • Educating, Teaching, and the Notorious RBG

The Notorious RBG's passing last Friday shocked the country. I spent the weekend reflecting on the lessons she taught me during her time on the bench. In this episode, I dissect the difference between educating and teaching. Many are educated but unable to teach effectively.
Justice Ginsburg was highly educated and one of the most impactful of our lifetime. Politics aside, her sheer tenacity and bravery have impacted and changed the trajectory of so many. She was tremendous teacher by the examples she set. .

I discuss this and more about the impact of her legacy on our nation and my family.

  • Post-9/11 Reflection as a POC, and How to Educate Our Children

September 11, 2001 changed our lives and our world forever. It is the one day each year that we all come together, regardless of our backgrounds, and remember the horrific acts of that day.
But what happened on September 12, 2001? That is the day we began healing as a nation but it also showed our differences.

In this episode, I talk about my experience post 9/11, as a PoC, and how it impacted the parenting of my 4 children.

By educating ourselves, we can learn so much from each other and begin to break down these social barriers.

  • Fatherhood, Children, and Schools

This week, my amazing husband, Anu, joins us in the studio to discuss how fathers can become engaged in their child's schools. Father's roles are different from mothers and just as important in the schools. Their approach to education and support is a vital source of strength needed for schools and their children.
Children need to see their fathers take interest and participate in education.

Anu and I discuss and laugh our way through his journey of fatherhood and raising 4 children. Listen in!

  • Parent Coping Skills as Schools Open

Yikes! Schools are opening in a weird way. One day schools are opening in-person, the next all virtual. It's a rollercoaster every day for parents, students, and the schools. In this episode, I discuss the 3 main options I've seen for schools, the pros and cons, and what our household is doing to navigate this tumultuous time.

I share my own apprehension of sending my children back to the colleges.

And a HUGE shout out to @jerrywon for becoming our latest patreon supporter! Thanks, friend!
