Acceleration is the path less traveled in most schools and classrooms, especially those in which students are reading and writing far below grade level. The usual approach is to help students catch up by remediating learning or going backwards to go forward. Through the examination of specific and practical strategies that administrators, teachers, teams, and schools can implement, Dr. Sharon V. Kramer takes listeners on an alternate journey through the acceleration pathway that closes the achievement gap quickly enough to access grade and course level learning for all students.

Cybersecurity is not a new phenomenon, but over the last year the vulnerability of school districts to cyberattacks has grown exponentially. The rapid acceleration of the use of technology during the pandemic brought many new technology opportunities to K-12 education. However, along with progress came serious challenges. One of the most alarming trends has been the rise in cyberattacks on school district networks. The result is not only disruptions in teaching and learning and school operations, but also damaging exposure of school personnel data and student data.
Today, more than ever, school district leaders must know how to take appropriate actions to be sufficiently aggressive in getting ahead of cybersecurity threats and also know how to respond when their school network systems are impacted by a cyberattack.
In this edWeb podcast, three school district superintendents share their knowledge and experiences in leading cybersecurity awareness in their school systems. Strategies for preventing cyberattacks and recommendations for responding effectively when they do occur are reviewed.
This edWeb podcast is of particular value to superintendents, K-12 school and district leaders, and aspiring school leaders.

Banks aren’t always buildings, phones are sometimes wallets, and your babysitter prefers an app to cash. Financial services are changing. Shouldn’t financial literacy?
In this edWeb podcast, EVERFI, the leading voice in financial education, lays out the landscape of financial literacy in a digital first world. Through research review, EVERFI helps district and school administrators think through and answer questions about the effectiveness of financial literacy programs, how students are interacting with the global financial system, and what topics should be top of mind as administrators build financial literacy courses and curriculum in their districts and schools.
In partnership with Tina Stavrou-Klem, Senior Instructional Specialist from Pasco County Schools, EVERFI also shares implementation case studies and best practices from school districts across the country around financial literacy education.
Listen to the EVERFI team as they break down financial services and financial literacy in a Gen Z world and provide solutions and resources for your high school classrooms.

When the pandemic hit, schools around the world were closed, thrusting educators, students, and parents into a crisis as learning moved online. In this edWeb podcast, the Georgia Department of Education Social Studies team and state education leaders describe how their virtual learning communities on edWeb.net helped them support educators, and their students and parents, during this time of crisis.
The GaDOE Social Studies Department had the foresight to launch these communities five years ago, so their programs were in place when the pandemic hit. The presenters discuss how edWeb was able to help with the specific needs of the pandemic.
Educators have commented during this past year that “virtual professional learning is one of the big wins of the pandemic.” Listen to this edWeb podcast to learn how the GaDOE Social Studies team and state education leaders use the free platform, edWeb.net, to create engaged, online professional learning communities, creating a sustainable solution for personalized PD during the pandemic and beyond.
This edWeb podcast is of interest to all educators including state, school, and district leaders and teachers. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

Providing safe and secure resources for students, teachers, parents, and staff has always been a foundational tenant for effective learning environments. Today, more than ever in K-12, providing that environment requires having robust cybersecurity infrastructures, policies, and practices in place. Recent reports indicate that one-third of our schools have had a cyber intrusion in the last two years. The question for today’s schools isn’t if, but when! Please join K-12 district leaders for a discussion regarding the cybersecurity challenges they face.
These leaders will address the following questions:

Emerging from pandemic schooling, it is tempting to return to routine academics in the name of learning recovery and acceleration. Instead, research suggests the first priority should be (re)establishing student connectedness with empathy and inclusiveness foremost. Student self-view, intrinsic motivations, and well-being are critical to their readiness to learn in fall 2021 and beyond.
Listen to experts and practitioners in part one of this two-part series on how to build an SEL program and integrate instructional practices that recognize social-emotional well-being as the fuse to learning recovery and ongoing student success. We examine research-based practices and share success stories of schools and classrooms that prioritize student supports and community across the curriculum with a focus on virtual and blended learning. We define SEL, outline research evidence, identify key system components, and share what makes for successful district and school programs.
In part two of this series, we focus on the classroom and share best practices and success stories for authentically integrating social-emotional learning into the curriculum, so students don’t even know they are eating their “wellness spinach.” Information will follow when part two is scheduled.
