In today’s episode, we continue with our discussion on Pat Lencioni’s The Advantage. The book is about creating a healthy organization. We discuss specifically the third habit of building a cohesive leadership team, commitment.
Jesus has built vulnerability-based trust with his disciples. He’s engaged in healthy conflict with his disciples. He allows his disciples to question him and suggest things to him without fear of punishment or reprisal. This leads him to making a decision-the Great Commission as seen in Matthew 28: 18-20-and His disciples both then and now committing to that decision.
To highlight the effectiveness of that commitment and decision, I share three stories about former FOCUS missionaries committing to making disciples.

In today’s episode, we talk about Jesus’ building healthy conflict with his “leadership team”, his twelve disciples. Jesus is able to engage in healthy conflict with his disciples because he has built vulnerability-based trust with them. We contrast building vulnerability-based trust with the opposite of this practice as seen in the Los Angeles Lakers.
We also talk about how Jesus is like a “dream giver”. This is not in a phony way, but he does many times fulfill dreams that stem from our holy desires.
The Scripture passages referenced in this episode are from the RSV and are Luke 1:41-49, John 6:60-69, Matthew 14:26-33, and John 16:16-20.

In today’s episode, we jump into the book, The Advantage, by Pat Lencioni. The purpose of the book is to provide a blueprint for creating a healthy organization.
Lencioni explains that the first step in building a healthy organization is building a cohesive leadership team. The first step in building a cohesive leadership team is building vulnerability-based trust.
In order to examine vulnerability-based trust, we will look at the perfect and infinite leader, Jesus. Jesus is God, yet He became man. Talk about being vulnerable!

In this brief podcast episode, we hear from a very special guest, our almost four-year-old James Michael Rosser about sand dollars, trains, and cows. Enjoy!
In today’s episode, we have the privilege of hearing from my dad and former Raycom Media Executive Vice President, Jeff Rosser.
Prior to overseeing over a dozen local television stations around the country, Dad served as news director and general manager of several television stations including those in Tulsa, New York City, Boston, Birmingham, Dallas, Fort Smith, and Oklahoma City.
Dad shares how he “recharges his saw” through golf. His “mindset minute” centers on his views on positive leadership and the importance of empathy in leadership.
In our story segment, Dad shares his conversion story. We learn a couple of lessons in the story segment, specifically on how to evangelize. The three lessons are:
The threshold idea comes from the book Forming Intentional Disciples by Sherry Weddell. According to Weddell, each person goes through five thresholds of discipleship before going “all in” for Christ and His Church. The thresholds are:

Dene’ also mentions spiritual direction in the podcast. Dene’ and I have the same spiritual director. We’ve moved six times in eight years of marriage and we still have the same spiritual director from our first FOCUS posting in Dubuque, Iowa. We talk on Skype. Here is some practical advice from Jennifer Fulwiler about how to find a spiritual director.
Here is a link to one of our favorite books on the importance of prayer, The Soul of the Apostolate by Father Jean Baptiste-Chautard. He discusses why prayer is so necessary in bearing fruit in the spiritual life. It’s an easy read, but each page is packed with great advice so I would recommend reading five pages at a time.
And, just a friendly reminder to write your prayer goals down. In others words:
