Another New Music Tuesday ahead!

Despite all of us being at home and practicing social distancing, there is still so much new music coming out from KC musicians. We’ll play brand new music from 10 acts on the show and we’ll talk about some upcoming live-streaming shows that you can catch at home.

As most of us aren’t in our cars too much right now, you can also stream the show live from The Bridge site or better yet, go download The Bridge app right now — it was created by the good people at Propaganda3. 

On the show we’ll hear new stuff from The MGDs, Una Walkenhorst, Use Your Atlas, Khrystal., Lava Dreams, Amy Marcus, Grant Klein, SHINER, Belle & The Vertigo Waves and Ready Astronaut. We’ll criss cross several genres and have a good time.

On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, we turn our attention to new music and upcoming livestream concerts! Just because we are all in our homes doesn’t mean that concerts must stop and that new music can’t still fill the airwaves. We’ll hear brand new music from They Call Me Sauce, Fullbloods, R.I.Peter, Nick Siegel, and The MGDs. 

We’ll also hear new music from a very cool compilation put together by our friends at Manor Records, called "Keep The Change." The album features 12 musicians covering a wide array of songs, and comes out digitally on April 13. Money raised from it will help out KC's service industry.

The Bridge has been celebrating Women's History Month by playing great music and sharing stories from so many amazing women in music. On this week's episode of Eight One Sixty, we'll do a deep dive into historic women in KC music, and to do so we brought in Bill Brownlee.

Bill Brownlee is a long time concert reviewer and music writer for The Kansas City Star, contributor to KCUR 89.3, he’s been blogging since before the word “blog” was a word, he’s worked for music labels/distributors but most importantly for this show, he knows his stuff when it comes to KC music history.

Here’s a couple teasers for you: in 1985, Tears for Fears were playing in KC and stayed at the hotel that is now the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza. While staying there, a woman was in the lounge singing and they loved her voice. Two years down the road, they reached out to her and had her sing on a massive song of theirs, which also featured Phil Collins on drums. After that her solo career launched and she’s gone on to massive success... and she still has a house here!

Another: Remember Johnny Carson? Did you know that the No. 1 most visited musical guest to his show is 91 years old and she still calls KC home? She was a guest on his show 26 times!

On the show we’ll hear from these powerful women: Marva Whitney, Deborah Brown, Oleta Adams, Myra Taylor, Mary Lou Williams, Marilyn Maye, Melba Liston, Priscilla Brown, Julie Lee and a little Janelle Monáe.

On this week's episode of Eight One Sixty on 90.9 The Bridge, we’ll be hanging out with Jake Wells and his band, who just released a brand new EP called “Sunday Morning.” We’re going to play the album track for track, and have Jake and his bandmates share the stories behind the songs.

If you’re not familiar with Jake Wells, he’s a great singer-songwriter, he has nearly 3 million spins on Spotify and recently was on the TV show, “The Voice.”

This Saturday, March 13, Jake Wells will be playing an album release show at recordBar. Also on the bill: Westside Royal (also releasing an EP) and The Philistines.

This week on the Eight One Sixty, it’s all about new and recent releases... again! There’s so much good music coming out of Kansas City right now — this is already our fourth new music show of 2020. 

We’ll hear from Una Walkenhorst, Fritz Hutchison, Ivory Blue, Kerosene Culture, The Widow's Ride, The Black Mariah Theater, Same Empathy, sMallWaves, Teri Quinn and the curiously named Jesus Loves the Atom Bomb.

On this week's episode of Eight One Sixty, we're handing the show over to guests Les Izmore (Heartfelt Anarchy/Arquesta Del SolSoul) and Kemet Coleman (The Phantastics/Kemet the Phantom) as we celebrate Black History Month on the show.

One of them picked some historic KC musicians and the other picked current and upcoming acts. It’s going to be a good show as we share music picked by two of my favorite voices, acts and storytellers in KC music, Les and Kemet.

We’ll hear from Nublvckcity, Bobby Watson, The Black Creatures, Bennie Moten’s KC Orchestra, Hi-Lux, Tech N9ne, Joe Turner, and Tonina (STL).
