Our July series, Sound Minds, continues this week on the Eight One Sixty. This week we welcome in special guest Dr. Katie Jacobs via Zoom. Also joining us, Michelle Bacon guiding the conversation, and Sarah Bradshaw producing the show.

Sound Minds is a four-part series of shows all about musicians and mental health. In March 2021, Michelle Bacon conducted a survey and over 160 musicians participated. The conversation will be about the survey findings as well as gaining perspective from our guest, Dr. Katie Jacobs.

In addition to being a PhD and teaching at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, she is also the front person for the rock band Interstate Run - so we'll get extra insight, as a musician and a doctor. Doc also picked out some songs to share this week on the show, including music from her band, Interstate Run, as well as Sia, Young the Giant, and The All-American Rejects.

We'll also hear from two KC area musicians that shared their music with us, as well as the story behind the song, in connection to mental health: Kirsten Paludan, who is playing on Thursday at Replay Lounge, and Quiet Takes who is playing at Velo Garage and Tap House in North KC on Saturday, August 14.

Our Sound Minds series continues, as we welcome in special guest Dr. Erin Corriveau. Dr. Corriveau is a medical doctor at University of Kansas Medical Center, deputy medical officer at Wyandotte County Health Center and she's on the Midwest Music Foundation board.

This is part 2 of our four-part series on musicians and mental health, based on a survey and findings put together by Bridge content manager Michelle Bacon. Leading the conversation this week is Dr. Corriveau. In addition to providing important insight and knowledge, she also shares with us her amazing taste in music. On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, we wrap up our four-part series, Sound Minds. Back in March, Michelle Bacon conducted a survey about musicians dealing with mental health issues. Over 160 musicians did the survey and for the past four weeks, Bacon has been co-hosting the show and guiding a conversation about the survey findings. She’s also offered up numerous options from organizations and places that provide affordable (and perhaps free) care for people in need. 

In addition to Bacon sharing her findings and data, we have also been playing music from musicians and sharing the story behind the song, dealing with mental health. This week on the show we’ll hear from Kirsten Paludan, Molly Picture Club, Mac Lethal, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Every Tuesday this month The Bridge's Content Manager Michelle Bacon joins the show. Back in March she researched and developed a survey dealing with musicians and mental health. Over 165 musicians replied and with this data and other research and we discuss her findings on the show.

Also, this week we reached out to some KC Musicians with upcoming gigs and asked if they had a song in their catalog dealing with this topic that we could play AND we asked them for a few sentences about the back story of the song. We hear from Katy Guillen and The Drive, Miguel Antonio, Crystal Rose, Kadesh Flow, and Nicole Springer and share the story behind each song we play.

And in September, Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear are part of another great lineup, this time at a fest in Leavenworth. It’s called Camp Leavenworth and features Melissa Etheridge, returning to her hometown for a big show.

On the show we’ll talk about those events and musicians, and so much more. Do you remember seeing Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2015? Do you recall that Coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots was also a guest? Madisen tells us a story about nearly getting arrested in an Uber moments after leaving the Ed Sullivan Theater.

We’ll hear about the podcast they started during quarantine, “Mad Mama Half Happy Hour Podcast.” They’ve already had massive guests like Will Forte, Heidi Gardner, and Joseph Gordon Levitt. We'll talk about so many things, and maybe we'll even play a little music.
