  • Middle of the Map Wrap
    On this show we wrap up Middle of the Map and play a song from one of our favorite sets and then we play music from bands with upcoming gigs: both The Life and Times and The Besnard Lakes, this Sunday at recordBar, Me Like Bees next #WINSday, May 17 at The K before The Royals game. We play a song from Andrew Ashby’s catalog - he’ll be at The Brick next Friday, May 19. Also, David George who has an EP release show on Tuesday night at recordBar. Then, hear from The Whiffs, they’re playing Waynez World III, a 3-day event at The Blind Tiger this weekend and they’re also playing the 2017 Crossroads Flock Party on First Friday June 2, along with Claire Adams and several other great acts. Also, music from Pearl Allure, they’re playing at Westport Roots Festival, coming up on Memorial Day Weekend. That weekend is also Kansas City Jazz & Heritage Festival and from that lineup we hear from Logan Richardson. Plus, we hear a song from a musician we lost last week, Jacob Garrett, he was in several KC projects: Clearviews, Aprilmist and Spring Eyes.

  • Crystal Rose
    On this show we are joined by special guest and a rising voice in KC music, Crystal Rose Music. She plays an in-studio acoustic set for us that will blow your mind. Crystal Rose is part of The Bridge’s Day Party happening this Saturday, May 6 at recordBar as part of Middle of the Map Fest. Saturday kicks off with a special BRUNCH BUFFET at recordBar with music from The MGDs, then the day party with Kate Rose Music, Keaton Conrad, Gracie Schram, The Moose, Crystal Clayton and Crystal Rose, that’s music from 11:30AM-7PM. After her in-studio set hear music from other acts playing Middle: De La Soul, Second Hand King, CAAMP, THE ARCHITECTS, EBONY TUSKS and brand new music from The Good Hearts. Make sure you have tickets as we run through logistics of the fest for you as well!

  • Middle of the Map: Plan Your Schedule
    We’re going to help you plan your schedule for Middle of the Map Fest! The 7th annual music fest is coming up on Thursday, May 4 through Saturday, May 6 and features 106 bands from all over the country. Hear music from fest headliners De La Soul, then Arkells, from Ontario who just spent the last two weekends at Coachella. Also, Grammy winner Anna Wise and her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, then the party rocker, Har Mar Superstar will be in the mix. Chris' current music obsession from Ohio, CAAMP will be back on the show, plus brand new stuff from Yoni Wolf aka WHY? and of course music from great KC acts playing the fest too: two young and rising voices, Crystal Rose Music and Gracie Schram; the always fascinating Calvin Arsenia; brand new stuff from the doo-wop hip hop king of KC - Second Hand King; the tried and true road warriors Katy Guillen and The Girls and an interesting project from Intelligent Sound with Domineko teaming up with DEV3N.     We’re doing TWO shows in ONE on this episode of the Eight One Sixty! The first half features the AMAZING Krystle Warren, back in KC, visiting from France for a special gig with Hermon Mehari on Wednesday, April 19: Krystle Warren with Hermon Mehari - A Benefit for Jazz Legacy Project. Hear two songs live and then an album track from her upcoming album, "Three The Hard Way".
    After that we are joined by Judy Mills of Mills Record Company to get the scoop on Record Store Day, happening this Saturday at independent record stores all across the world. She brings in some vinyl exclusives and we happily fire up our turntables to give them a spin.

    It’s PLEDGE WEEK which means it is a two hour show where we hear a bunch of music! Brand new music from these KC bands: Earth Spun Occupants, Grassfed, The Greeting Committee, Nick Siegel and Andrew Foshee. Also, acts playing at Boulevardia on June 16 and 17, Local Natives and The Joy Formidable. Then a handful of bands playing at Middle of the Map Fest in ONE month: LION, Aaron Alexander, Heartfelt Anarchy, Instant Karma, Run River North, Jason Isbell, a new one from Smokey James & the Avalanche, REYNA, a new one from Talib Kweli, IndyGround Kansas City, and a song from a band out of Ohio that Chris is obsessed with named CAAMP (catch them at recordBar on Saturday, May 6).

    We’ll start the show with a live Folk/Americana set from Sky Smeed who is releasing his new album on Saturday, April 1st at recordBar. AFTER his set we’ll turn things up a bit and hear new music from KC-based record label, High Dive Records, featuring music from Arc Flash and The Whiffs. Keeping it loud, we’ll hear new music from Red Kate who have a release show coming on April 7 at Davey's Uptown Rambler's Club and also new music from The People's Punk Band with a release show on May 19 at Replay Lounge. Also, more new music from Violent Bear with a gig coming up on May 25 at The Tank Room. Then, for good measure, music from CAAMP, one of the 100+ bands playing this year’s Middle of the Map Fest.

  • Middle of the Map 2017 - Deeper Dive
    This time around we take a deeper dive into the lineup for Middle of the Map Fest 2017.  Hear BRAND NEW music from The Sluts (it’s so good) and also music from a newer KC band named Mess. There will be music from two bands that make their way to KC after they play Coachella, Zipper Club (NY/LA) and Arkells (Canada). Also, a couple acts that Chris thinks could be sleeper picks for your new favorite bands after you see them at Middle, Ro Ransom (NY) and CAAMP (Ohio), plus music from the Atlanta band Big Jesus and the great Stik Figa out of Topeka. Then, for good measure we’ll throw in some music from our headliners: Jason Isbell, De La Soul and Talib Kweli.
