Today we continue the Ghibli Journey.

After some quick corrections that we bring up at the start we jump right into our initial thoughts of Princess Mononoke.

And of course we have to discuss how it compares with the last two movies we've seen on this journey.

Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky.

Then we somewhat delve into comparisons of other movies that follow a similar theme. Man vs. Nature.

It's a story that's been told before but has it been overdone? Or is there still more story to tell?

Also is this movie okay for kids to watch? What do we think? But more importantly, what does Hayao Miyazaki think?

Whose the real "bad guy" of this movie and is the a good side and bad side?

Why do we only care about animals if they are cute?

And finally, since we are talking about Studio Ghibli we always find a way to talk about Disney and Pixar too.

Although it is Studio Ghibli's first animated film, it's the second film in our Ghibli journey, following the beloved Spirited Away.

But was this a mistake?

Was having Spirited Away be our first viewing set a bar that's too high? 

Or does Castle in the Sky do some things better than Spirited Away?

In today's episode we are covering the world-renowned and James Gunn approved, Spirited Away.

And right on time for Spirited Away Day!

This was an interesting movie for sure. I'm going into this watching it for the first time. And Caroline has seen this many times before. So we are coming at this from very different perspectives. And there is a lot to go over. 

I was left thinking about character motivations. And what is the mystery behind this strange other world. 

Caroline also gives good behind the scenes information on Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. And more specifically his mindset behind his storytelling.

This movie leaves you with a lot to think about. There are moments and people and themes that can mean different things to different people. And that's the best part about it. 

So here we are today, joining the conversation on this 2001 classic.

Continuing with our completely unplanned series of movies that start with an "S":

This week we are talking Speed!

So how does this classic 90's action movie, starring Keanu Reeves, hold up?

And also what do we think of the acting in this movie? 

There is a list of actors who show up that might surprise you if you're watching this movie for the first time. And a few of them seem to be acting...well, not how we're used to seeing them act.

And then, and most importantly, we go over what I am now calling

The Caroline Coffee Conundrum

In Speed, our man protagonist Jack stops for a cup of coffee. He leaves the coffee cup on the hood of his car and in the heat of the moment he drives off forgetting that its there. 

This rookie coffee drinker mistake was a nightmare for Caroline to witness. The image of watching good coffee go to waste will haunt her for decades.

So we ask the question, What would she have done if she was near the scene of this terrible accident?

Would she yell out to Jack in horror to possibly prevent this coffee spill? 

Or would she have dived for it in a valiant effort to salvage that heavenly brew?

The answer will shock you!

Okay maybe not but it's a good conversation nonetheless.

Long time Sonic Fan, Caroline, and I, casual Sonic enjoyer whose never beat one of his games, come together this week to talk about this live action Sonic movie.

So what did we think? Does this movie stay true to the games? Well...yeah, surprisingly. We get into how it does that.

What about how it ranks amongst other video game based movies? Not too bad, but for specific reasons.

Also what do we think about Olive Garden? Yes this is relevant to the movie. If you've seen it you will know why.

Oh and maybe you might hear some Sonic 2 speculations?

We just couldn't stay away from the high school setting for very long. So we are back! 

But instead of East High we are visiting Sky High!

Having watched this movie again more recently we have to ask ourselves if it's as good as we remember it. 

How do we feel about each character and their powers?

Does this movie properly get it's point across that it's trying to teach us?

Or are we just expecting too much from a kids movie?

Not only that but we also get into topics surrounding heroes in general.

How does Sky High compare to My Hero Academia? 

We find out they have a lot more in common than we think at first.

And to wrap up the conversation we get into comics, our favorite heroes, and preferred super powers. 

 

(Also I have to mention we lose a bit of audio at the eight and a half minute mark. We just wrap up how it's great that Will sticks up for his sidekick friends and then get into the scene were Layla is going to confess her feelings to Will)

We are back with another movie discussion. This week we are taking a break from musicals but we are still not out of Disney's territory.

Today we are talking about Night at the Museum.

We discuss the large array of historical characters that show up in this film. Most of them funny. Some of them interesting. And a few inspiring.

We also get into whether or not it's worth staying with a job where you have to watch over a museum that comes to life at night. It's a lot harder than it sounds. 

Especially if there's a cute little baby monkey that likes to play innocent little pranks on you. 

If you happen to be some kind of unreasonable monkey hater then you're going to be in for a bad time.
