In the midst of the twin crises of the pandemic and crashing oil prices that are killing the province's economy, the fishing industry has been quietly holding its own. The fishery's value to the province in 2019 topped one point four billion dollars. While the numbers for 2020 aren't yet compiled, the fisheries union is expecting similar value for the year of COVID. This morning on our daily check-in with political candidates in our listening area, we focus on the fishery with the three people running for election in the district of Fogo Island-Cape Freels. Jim Gill is running for the NDP, Derrick Bragg is the Liberal candidate, and Sue Collins is the candidate for the PCs.
