    JOHN TEJADA

Welcome to another episode of the Underground Movement Show!
We have a special treat for you this week, electronic music innovator, veteran and owner of Palette Recordings….John Tejada.
We catch up with Mr. Tejada during one of his NYC appearances during a 4 Us by Us / Trilogy event where ElectronicRhythm’s own G-Ron threw down a great warm-up set.
DJ Diggy conducts an informative interview with John Tejada to give you a closer look at what makes the legendary producer tick.
John delivers an amazing DJ set that we had to give you an extra 20 minutes of to get a taste I his stylings, skills and an assortment of his self-produced tracks.
Enjoy the podcast as much as we did when it was broadcasted on our Live Player.

     John Tejada:

    Biography:

Normally associated with his peers in techno from Detroit, Europe and elsewhere, John Tejada has embraced electronic music as a personal frontier, expanding on his resume as a techno recording artist as producer, remixer, DJ, and label owner. Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo.
John Tejada was born in Vienna, Austria on April 21, 1974. His parents, both professional classical musicians (his mother an opera singer and father a conductor) began his early piano training at the age of 4. In the summer of 1982, John would move with his mother to her place of birth, Los Angeles. It was that summer at the age of 8 another instrument would catch his eye, the drums. Teaching himself to play along to classic rock music, John quickly learned his way around the drum set (an instrument he still plays to this day in his I’m Not A Gun project). Everything changed however when he got his first taste of early 80’s hip hop music. The impact of those early productions and electronic experimentation was very strong. Soon after, at the age of 12 John was given his first set of turntables and a mixer. He wanted to figure out everything he was hearing DJs do at that time. His first gigs came at the age of 12 for his own school, DJing his school dances.
Soon after his fascination with DJing began his fascination with production began. Just as he was completely determined to learn the tricks of local DJs, he now wanted to know how the music was made. His introduction came around the age of 15, when he acquired his first looping delay. Soon after came his first workstation, an Ensoniq EPS sampler. This opened up a whole new world of possibilities. John spent every part of his day honing his craft.

    Deepak Sharma (Hidden Recordings)

We return this week with great set from another NYC treasure, Mr. Deepak Sharma! Deepak owns and runs one of NY’s famous Hidden Recordings record label which is known worldwide and gets supported by many great DJs and Producers like Adam Beyer, Perc, Marc Broome and many others. Deepak delivers a great set here recorded on the roof of the Z Hotel and will definetly have you moving to the power driving techno sounds. Enjoy this set and look further through the ElectronicRhythm Live Player to catch his full set.

    Bio:
In the transient world of dance music where DJs come and go, few have the will, patience and devotion to stay relevant in the ever changing landscape of ‘the scene’. Deepak Sharma has carved his own path, and with passion and focus has been able to keep his finger on the pulse as techno continues to evolve.

Born in New Delhi, India, but raised State-side, Deepak recalls the early days of his childhood watching and listening to his mother strum the sitar for hours on end. Unbeknownst to him, that sound would have an influence later in life. Deepak found himself gravitating towards a wide range of music from jam bands to hip-hop where strong lyrics and the beat would evoke an impulsive emotion. Throughout all of this was his mantra that music should elicit a response, but still needs to be fun.

Fast forward to today, you have one of the most consistent players in techno, from releasing a mix compilation in 2004 that De:Bug Magazine called one of the best mix comps they’ve heard in ages, to traveling globally to DJ, starting his own label Hidden Recordings while collaborating with Germany’s Dieter Krause. Over the past four years, Hidden Recordings has gone from a small digital dream, to a budding international label beloved by thousands throughout the globe. Growing from the duo to releasing artists hailing from Europe, North and South America both vinyl and digitally, further distinguishing Hidden Recordings from the rest.

    DJ BECKA

Welcome to the Underground Movement Show! This week, we bring you a live mix recording of DJ Becka while she dished out the grooves at NYC’s National Underground. We were able to catch up with DJ Becka for a one-on-one interview with the skilled DJ herself and ER’s resident Diggy. Learn more about her and her music as we go on a ride through these great beats and interesting pre-set interview.

    Bio:

Ranked as one of the Top 100 Female DJ’s in the world in the Shejay Top 100 Female DJ’s poll, Becka has been exposing her eclectic style to the masses for more than a decade. She has played at events across the US, Europe and South America, alongside artists like Adam Beyer, Sleeper Thief, Miss Yetti, Adam X, Agent Orange, and Funk D'void, just to name a few. Her unique blend of electronic music styles has left those witnessing her sets comparing her sound to the likes of German techno dj/producer Chris Liebing.

A few of the important places where Becka has played are: Fuse (Brussels, Belgium), Metropolis (Paris, France), Montuno Vibes (Ghent, Belgium), DEMF (Gotham Grooves) (Detroit), Tronic Treatment (NYC), Limelight (NYC), the I Love Techno 1st Anniversary party in Caracas, Venezuela, Pacha (NYC), Zoo Project in Ibiza, and many others.

Her determination and ambition led her to the creation of Gotham City Radio. Airing on Livesets.com, the show featured Becka, along with some of the hottest international and local artists. Artists she played host to included Joris Voorn, Bryan Zentz, The Horrorist, along with countless others. With a recent relaunch of the show, you can now catch her on the air on Livesets, and now also on Digitally Imported Radio. In addition to this, Becka’s exclusive sets have been aired on various other net radio stations, most recently Vonyc.com, the new station owned and operated by the world famous Paul Van Dyk.

Inspired by her partner, ARA, Becka began co-producing tracks with him, as well as working on solo projects. Their first release together is featured on Gotham Grooves 009-Orange Slices EP. Their second release, a remix of the track Lifestyle by Magnifica, was played by DJ's such as Eric Morillo and Sander Kleinenberg. After several releases and motivated by her love of the studio, in 2006 Becka launched her own label, Gotham City Recordings. The label features releases by artists including Agaric and Marko Nastic along with her own productions. GCR has already been experiencing the success that takes many labels years to achieve, seeing the first two releases charted by some of the biggest players in the industry - Dave Clarke and Marko Nastic. She continues pushing the GCR brand, but also the ARA & Becka sound, releasing on labels such as Teggno Records, Lift'in, and their most recent achievement, Paul Van Dyk's Vandit.

At the age of 16, he began his journey into music. He played countless day times and parties with his first set of turn tables Gemini without pitch control and belt driven. As the time went on him Upgraded to MK 1200’s and started doing countless Block Parties and guest spots around the city of Chicago and suburbs and hanging out with up and coming DJs such as Jorge Salias aka Soul Pimp, Miguel Rodriguez AKA D.J. Miggy, Rich Martinez, Luis Segura, Wesley Whiz Kidd, DJ Bobby Martinez, DJ Jess Galvez, DJ Smokkin Flame Mayora (RIP), Raul Virgil and the list goes on. He joined Euro Production and played guest spots as well as held A residence at all of their events .As time went on he played all types of music ranging from Old School, House, New Wave, Industrial ,Techno and Hip-hop while keeping his mind opened to anything with a great sound.

In the late 90’s After Hours events opened up a whole new world of music such as Trance, Progressive Trance, Underground and Drum and Bass. He began to play all the After Hours and late night clubs such as Chambers and Excel gaining a reputation as a DJ that could spin a wide variety of music he gained a residence at Rapture and carried it for close to a year.

After the scene took a downturn music vibe geared towards Hip hop, bachata, and a Spanish style. it drew terrible promoters who cared more about money than great music. Mark decided to quit the club scene and do private events. He eventually stopped doing parties and mostly stayed with his family.

He however never gave up on the music he loved he purchased his first set of Denons CD decks he still owns to this day. As time went by and the night club Zentra opened, he noticed a new wave of music being played on a Wednesdays nights. Deep House, Soulful House and Latin House was being played by some of our great DJs right here in Chicago. Julius Mad Thinker, Monna, DJ Flex and who can forget Pritti. The group were no other than 3 Degrees. A Music movement so strong it went nationwide. He started to feel the vibe and began playing this music in his basement and making CD’s for his friends .

A long time had passed and he started going to different clubs which were RED DOGG, Blue Note, Dark Room, Red NO Five and other House spots. That is where he met and has been friends with Chicago legends such as DJ Andre Harris, DJ Ralphy and Lego Rodriguez.

In 2011 he went back on the scene doing what he does best playing music but a different style of House. It started with the biggest blizzard this town has ever seen at a place called Tigers and from there played at radio shows such as Fearless House, with Marco Madd Diaz and Oscar Handsome OZ Garcia, WRTE Radio CYC with DJ Greedy, Grove Palor with DJ Rude Boy Rob and Alex Mr. Latin House on Chitownmusic radio.com. He also has been showcased on numerous internet shows such as Soul Jack Digital with Mr. Tony Technics , Chitownvibes.com with DJ 4 –Ever and H2S On-Live with host Antoine T Simpson at ElectronicRhythm.com.

On this week's Visual Podcast Experience, we bring you a Live Recording from New York City's Justin Schumacher. Justin has been developing his production/DJ skills for many years and now achieving great accomplishments and recognition. One of his latest tracks "Gate" on Ill Bomb Records has gotten great buzz on dancefloors worldwide. With great remixes from Audio Injection, Justin Kase, Owen Sands and Decibel Flexx, this is one EP not to miss. Mr. Schumacher is also owner of Good For You Records releasing various styles of Tech House which one will find out more in the pre-set interview. We hope you follow Justin Schumacher via his social links to keep up with his latest productions and DJ gigs.

    BIOGRAPHY:
It all started in Brooklyn, NY during the mid 90's. Hip hop's golden era was winding down, and the NYC rave scene was just beginning to descend from its peak. There were still tons of big parties and outlaws happening and it was here where Justin first developed his love for EDM.
In 2000, he bought a pair of Technic 1200's and taught himself how to mix and beatmatch with a crate of hand me down techno records from classic labels like Drumcode, Code Red, Hybrid, Planet Rhythm, Svek, Primate, Primeveil, etc. Soon after, with perfect timing, he landed a job working for the prestigious and world renown Satellite Records. Being around the widest selection of new releases and back catalogues only further fueled his vinyl addiction and ability to pick tracks. Within a year, Justin was getting booked to play at various techno weekly's and one offs around the city at famed locations such as Guernica, Liquids, and Sullivan Room to name a few. Established DJ's and promoters were calling him a prodigy due to his eerily quick understanding and mastering of technical and programming skills. Track selection and dancefloor response solidified his status as a respected up and comer in the scene.

In 2004 Justin decided to enroll in the DMX audio program at Touro College in NYC and earned his certificate for audio engineering. That same year he began co-producing tracks with good friend Agent Orange who was already running his well known label Gotham Grooves, putting out vinyl releases consistently. Up until that point Justin had only dabbled in production on a novice level and felt it was time to take the next step, and those first few studio sessions with Agent Orange were the seeds that started it all. Soon after he saved up to buy his own home rig where he can refine his sound. Around 2007 he began producing heavily albeit exclusively hip hop. His roommates and childhood friends/emcee collaborators I Am Many and Reason Kills were the catalyst for these beats which remained hip hop in essence but had undertones of the techno and house music he still played and adored.
