7 Tips to Overcome Imposter Syndrome

Have you ever felt like you don’t belong, or everyone is going to find out that you don’t deserve your achievements?

If you can relate to those feelings of chronic self-doubt, you’ve probably experienced imposter syndrome.

You’re not alone - studies suggest 70% of people experience imposter syndrome at some point in their career.

Overall, imposter syndrome stems from a high sense of self-doubt. Instead of attributing your success to your skills, you might downplay your success and attribute it to luck.

Signs You Might Be Suffering from Imposter Syndrome

Do you relate to any of these patterns?

You may set high goals for yourself. Because your goal is perfection, the smallest mistakes may make you feel like a failure.
Attribute success to luck. You downplay your success because you do not believe you deserve the success, or you believe you are just lucky.
Unable to recognize success. Instead of celebrating your accomplishments, you worry that others will see “the truth” about your skills and abilities.
Fear of failure. Because of a fear of failure, you may set challenging goals and be disappointed when those goals fail. You might also take on limited tasks because you fear failure.
Difficulty asking for help. You might have difficulty asking for help because you believe asking for help will show that you’re wrong or unqualified.

Experiencing imposter syndrome can limit your confidence to go after new opportunities because you feel that you do not deserve it.

Luckily, there are some steps you can take to give yourself more credit and start overcoming those feelings of self-doubt.

    Steps to Overcome Imposter Syndrome

Acknowledge imposter feelings. Recognize when you start feeling like an imposter. Instead of engaging with your thoughts of self-doubt, acknowledge that it is a normal response.
Understand the root of the cause. Why do you think you feel like you don’t belong? Is it due to a fear of failure? Do you believe that you don’t deserve success? Why or why not?
Focus on facts, not feelings. When you start feeling like a fraud, focus on positive facts. For example, maybe you were chosen for a job interview because of your qualifications.
Ask yourself if that thought helps or hinders you. Does feeling fraudulent help or hinder you? Is that what you want to be? What kind of person do you want to be?
Reframe your thoughts. Instead of telling yourself that you don’t deserve success, reframe your thoughts to give yourself more credit and enjoy the experience.
Own your accomplishments instead of attributing them to “luck” or “help from others.”
Instead of setting impossibly high standards, set smaller goals so you can enjoy the process.
Remind yourself there will never be the “perfect time.”
Accept that we all have to start somewhere.
Accept that it’s okay to make mistakes. Instead of fearing failure, develop a healthy response to making mistakes. A

We lie to ourselves each day. We tell ourselves that we’re going to start eating perfectly on Monday. We’re going to start a blog on January 1st. We blame our parents for our current financial mess even though we haven’t lived with our parents for the last 20 years.

Maybe we believe if we only had a swimming pool, we’d finally be happy, and that happiness would last forever.

These are all lies that we tell ourselves.

The lies you tell yourself are the most damaging lies of all:

I’ll be able to pay it off next month, so it’s okay if I buy it now. Using debt to purchase anything is a serious matter. It’s easy to convince yourself that you’ll brown-bag your lunch for the next month, or that you won’t go out for 30 days. However, we rarely seem to stick to these promises.Debt has a tremendous potential to snowball. Avoid using debt as much as possible.
I’ll start on Monday. Whether it’s a diet, a budget, an exercise plan, or any other undertaking, it’s a lie to tell yourself that you’ll start on Monday. Of course, Monday might not be your day of choice. Some people really prefer the first of the month or the first of the year.If it’s worth doing at all, it’s worth starting right now.
It’s all my parents’ fault. There’s no doubt that some parents are lousy at the job of parenting. But you’ve had plenty of opportunities to put your life back on track. Putting the blame for your present on the past limits your future. There is plenty you can do today to make your life better.
If I just had _____, everything would be perfect. Once you have the money, body, job, or whatever else it is you think you need to have a “perfect” life, you’ll likely find something else that you just have to have. There’s always another thing waiting behind the thing you currently want.
I’m different from everyone else. A lot of people believe there’s something wrong with them. And it’s not just something wrong with them, it’s something uniquely wrong with them.Everyone is unique, but the similarities between people are far greater than the differences. You’re not that different, and it’s unlikely there’s anything wrong with you that can’t be managed.
It’s too late for me. For some things, it might be too late. But it’s not too late for a lot of things. Waiting longer than you should have can make a lot of things less convenient, but that’s not the same as being too late. It just means you’re going to have to work harder or endure more inconvenience. There’s a penalty for waiting, but it’s rarely insurmountable.
The timing isn’t right. The timing is never right, and it’s never going to be right. Do it now while you can. Each day that you wait is another day of delay. You’re not going to live forever, and life never follows your plans anyway. Just do it.
We lie to ourselves to make us feel better. Telling ourselves that we’ll start losing weight on the 1st of the month puts our minds at ease and allows us to

5 Characteristics of Truly Inspiring Leaders
There are few things more important to effective leadership than the ability to inspire.
While there are plenty of bosses out there worthy of admiration, there are only a handful of leaders who can drive energy and passion from the people around them.

Coupled with a strong vision, a commitment to integrity, and a powerful set of morals, inspiring leaders have the power to change the world. You just need to look at innovators like Michelle Obama, Elon Musk and Richard Branson to see this for yourself.

Harvard Business School also discovered that the ability to inspire is the factor that creates the highest levels of employee commitment and engagement. Elsewhere, additional research found that inspired employees are twice as productive as their satisfied counterparts, driving 59% less turnover, 21% better productivity, and a 41% drop in absenteeism.

So, what makes a leader inspiring?

    The following characteristics are crucial.

    Commitment to Values

Inspirational leaders have a profound sense of purpose. It’s this focus and direction that helps them to continue moving forward on the path to positive change.

If you’re an inspirational leader, you’ll know what values you want to stand for, and you’ll ensure that you’ll never cave under the pressure to change. This might mean that you don’t always get along with your peers.

Being focused and ethical isn’t always easy, but inspirational leaders will always stand up for what they believe is right and fight against injustice. Leaders must act with integrity if they’re going to inspire anyone.

After all, people will always be watching the leaders of the world for evidence that they embody the principles they stand for.

    A Passion for Growth

Leaders know that there’s always room for improvement. That’s why many of the best leaders have a passion for constant learning and development. They’re aware of their weaknesses and they look for ways to transform them into strengths by listening to others.

Good leaders are always expanding and growing, interacting with people who can help them to get better.

What’s more, a great leader also can encourage growth in others. Inspirational leaders give the people around them opportunities to learn and grow too. This could mean giving employees access to classes and educational tools. It could even be as simple as curating and sharing good content on social media.

    Absolute Authenticity

Great leaders connect with others. They can create connections because they’re open about their strengths and struggles. They can relate to the journeys that others go through, and they’re happy to discuss the realities of what it took for them to achieve their goals. Inspirational leaders are authentic and real.

According to Ethan Taub, the CEO of Loanry and Goalry, being a good leader means having the strength to admit that you’re different and be proud of that fact. It takes courage to think outside of the box, and leaders can do that with absolute honesty.

It’s also this authenticity that allows leaders to open themselves up to risks and new experiences.

When something goes wrong in a leader’s plan, they recognize the problem, and learn from the mistake.

    Incredible Communication

Communication is crucial for any leader to be inspirational. How can you motivate someone to accomplish great things if you don’t speak their language?

Notably, not all communication is verbal. Leaders need to be able to connect with others in a range of different ways, from interactions over video conferencing, to written messages, to body languag
