You have to be comfortable leaving your comfort zone and going into a project, business or industry that you know nothing about. Become a great learner.

So many people get their media pitches wrong. They make their press releases all about themselves. You need to get over yourself and start talking about an existing issue. One that everyone is talking about already that can be drawn back to you, and provide either a 'yes, and' or a 'yes, but'. Speak to this, come from heart, and you will start to kick some serious butt in the media.

Whenever you’re doing something entirely new or original there is very little you can point to that suggests that what you are doing is a good idea. If you can point to past results to support your innovation, chances are you are not really innovating. The pursuit of originality is fraught with discomfort. But the ability to recognise the emotion of discomfort, and see it as a sign that you are doing something truly innovative, is the sign of a real change-maker. Today the crew caught me in an angry rant before filming had started, so I ended up asking myself a question: Why do people complain about their circumstances in life but then refuse to put the hard work in to change it? Nothing pisses me off more than this. Businesses don’t build themselves. If you’re not happy with where you’re at in life, yet you have time to to watch McLeod’s Daughters (if that’s still a thing?), and go out drinking 6 nights a week then I have very little sympathy.
