Last week I gave a presentation to roughly 140 people on a zoom call under the premise of "what has living in hospitals really taught me."  It was a message of hope, during our most trying of times.  And hope comes from confronting our fears.

There's 2 core fears for all humans.  We are afraid we are not going to be loved and we are fearful we are not enough.

My friends, there's good news today.  We are loved. We are enough.

"But coach, not with my flaws! If you saw how my business is in shambles, or how I've been a bad parent or spouse, and if you only saw me for who I really was ----" ... you may be thinking.

And I know that thought all too well, because I've been there.  I've been where I hate who I am because of my looks, my business, my wifey skills. I question whether I am enough, doing enough, have enough, being enough. I question what enough really even means!

And then one day, I got over my story in my head about who it was I thought I needed to be and sighed that, I am who I need to be already.

And here's how I got over it.  I realized I do not have to live with the thoughts taht do not serve me.  And if I am enough already, then there is hope regardless of circumstances. If we all believe we are not enough or are unloved, we also simultaneously have hope that we are perfect in who we are already.  We can be both.  And then I just needed to choose the thought that served my goals.  And that thought was that I am who I am because someone needed me to be myself.  I can't help people if I'm not myself and don't believe in my own worth.  And helping others was why I had to go through what I went through.

And for you, there's a primal thought that helps guide you to go through what you need to go through.  There's a future on the other side better than the negative thoughts that you have.  Choose that future.

Be gracious with yourself when the voice in your head shares the fear that you're not enough or that you're not loved.   Recognize everyone feels this from time to time.  When in the middle of these thoughts, take the time to do something to take care of yourself.  The reason flight attendants tell you to put your oxygen mask on first, is because it saves lives.Friends if this show today inspired you, encouraged you, gave you hope or  made you feel less alone -  I’d like to invite you to leave a 5 star review here and share it  with a friend.

The Power of Choice

Whether you realize it or not, all through the day the decisions we are making are influencing the rest of the day.  For whatever you choose in the moment, is what comes looking for you or keeps you up at 3 am wondering what went wrong.

I was chatting with a friend the other day, who COVID has really made an impact on.  And not a good impact.  He’s lost nearly 70% of his revenue for the year, nightly glasses of wine with his spouse have added to his waistline, and fitness has been something he just “hasn’t felt like” getting around to.   He didn’t choose COVID, or to nearly lose his business, or to have to lay off his people, true.  Yet, the struggle isn’t COVID.  The struggle is how he is choosing to let it define this period of his life.  That’s why you have to be careful what follows the adversity and not wield its power against you.

The good news is, you will always have a choice.  You have the choice to keep fighting, keep building, and take the tough times and preserve the deeper lessons that are revealed.   Get up in the morning and set a clear intention for the day.  Make it simple. And take the time to say it outloud.  

“Today I will allow myself to embrace what scares me, learn from those things I can’t control, and make choices my future self will thank me for.”  Starting your morning like that reminds you of your power and reinvigorates your soul.  

It opens your RAS (reticular activation system) open to look for possibility, deeper meaning,  and it costs you nothing!

An Affirmation for Today:

Today I will have gratitude in my heart for the moments where I may be weak.  Today, I have the power to choose what actions I take and a heart that guides me.  I will be open and ready to experience possibilities and opportunities.
