Skincare unfolds as an enthralling thriller coupled with an insightful character examination, led by the exceptional Elizabeth Banks. However, it ultimately fails to deliver a satisfying resolution. This film represents Austin Peters' debut in narrative filmmaking, featuring the illustrious aesthetician Hope Goldman, portrayed by Banks, who is poised to launch her own line of skincare products. The plot intensifies when a competitor opens a boutique directly across from her, leading Hope to suspect that someone is intent on sabotaging her business and personal life. As she becomes embroiled in a series of increasingly threatening situations, her paranoia drives her to conduct an investigation across Hollywood to identify the perpetrator and protect her business at all costs. While the film offers an engaging thriller and a fascinating character study, it does not entirely succeed in its execution.

Terry Richmond, a man, rolls into the quaint southern town of Shelby Springs, not on a horse but on a bicycle. Just as he’s about to reach the courthouse to bail out his cousin, a police car collides with him, sending him sprawling to the ground. The officers, under questionable pretenses, search him and find the cash meant for both bail and a new business with his cousin. They take the money, believing it might be connected to drug-related activities, a process allowed in the U.S. called 'civil asset forfeiture.'

The film begins with a viral video that highlights the wild and euphoric expression on Chris's face. In its early moments, Dìdi sets the tone as a screwball comedy that revolves around a standard teenage boy who engages in mischief with his friends, experiences a love/hate relationship with his older sister, and embodies the traits of a spoiled brat. However, Dìdi is not merely another teen movie. Like any average teenager, he is quick to retort to those around him but struggles to express his true self.

With a touching story that takes place over several decades, this movie lets audiences see how the main characters grow and develop. The practical head of the group, Odette, manages health issues on her own while maintaining her role as the glue that binds her friends and family together. Clarice, the wife of a pastor, struggles against the breakdown of her apparently perfect marriage and the expectations of society. In the meantime, Barbara Jean, a singer with a difficult past who sings with great emotion, looks to her craft and her friends' unfailing support for both redemption and healing.

In an attempt to decipher the nuanced emotions of another, a character asks, "Are you laughing or crying?" during the dramatic high point of Between the Temples. This scene perfectly captures the undercurrent of tension in the movie, as co-writers C. Mason Wells and Nathan Silver inject a hint of anxiousness into the narrative while delving into delicate feelings and the perplexing reactions that mental health conditions can elicit. The story explores an unconventional bond between two distinct people, and Silver deftly handles the complex dynamics of both attraction and friendship to unearth something extraordinary from the chaos.
