Meet Cindy Rodriguez, Founder of Elimu Girls (a division of Elimu-USA), a 501(c)(3) established in 2013 to equip girls with the skills to transform the outcomes of their lives.
Elimu Girls is a 2-year vocational sewing program that provides a safe space for vulnerable girls in rural Kenya to live, learn, grow, and give back to their community. They are based in the coastal region of Eastern Kenya and their girls are from small rural villages in Kilifi County.
The Elimu Girls mission: Empowers Her to become community leaders and entrepreneurs ensuring financial freedom, self-worth, and equality.
Cindy's passion for human rights, gender equality, and access to education led her to start this grassroots international organization. Cindy is a second-generation Latina woman living in Southern California. Her family stories chronicle the lives of Mexican immigrants who worked at the Simons Brickyard in Los Angeles, CA. She feels a sense of connection with the poverty-stricken teens in rural Kenya, as they were both given a second chance at life through education and empowerment.
In today's episode, Cindy shares her story of how she pivoted from being an education administrator and teacher in California and into becoming the Founder of Elimu Girls. Cindy has an MA in Curriculum & Instruction and an MA in Education Leadership.

She sold across 152 Sephora stores in the US/Canada and also live on QVC and HSN. Stoka has been recognized in Vogue, Allure, O the Oprah Magazine, the New York Times, and countless others. She sold the majority of the company and currently holds minority, founder, and board positions. During the COVID-19 pandemic she knew she wanted to start her second company, this time with a cofounder to both solve her aging skin problems, and to inspire others.
Doris Richards is a mom, wife, inventor, and businesswoman. A former three-time US champion and five-time All American Division I college athlete, she spent many years competing in the sun. As a true product junkie, she consistently scours websites and samples products to combat any signs of aging skin. Her first invention, Sexy Sweaties, was an ingenious way to remove undergarments after a workout. She knew for her second company her expertise in beauty, wellness, and combating aging while inspiring others was paramount.

Shreya launched her first fashion label, RAAS after moving from India to the United States. Her South Asian inspired brand reached huge success and become the inspiration between a collaboration brand with Dr. Axi.
This daring duo started their label with hopes that their consumers would feel empowerment to rise above the things that were trying to hold them back by channeling their inner diva.
Their fashion label stands out with bold designs and handmade pieces. They use rich vibrant colors and fabrics, which make people feel beautiful wearing them.
After only launching Tanisi in 2021, their label hit a milestone in February 2022 - when they were asked to showcase their first collection at NYFW.
Their line is bold and fierce. Tanisi drives to empower all those who hope to do more in life.

She is the founder and COO of Marlow, a menstrual health brand that has created the first-ever lubricated tampon delivered through a direct-to-consumer subscription model. Beyond the product, the team is taking a community-driven approach to reduce the stigma around menstrual health through education and conversations. The brand has been featured in a variety of publications including Global News, Betakit, Canadian Living, The Kit, FemTech Insider, Vancouver Sun, and more. Nadia led the team's fundraising strategy and raised a $500,000 pre-seed round and obtained $90,000 in non-dilutive grants. She is also the Ontario representative on the Startup Canada Women Advocacy Network where she participates in government roundtables to advocate for female founders. Prior to Marlow, Nadia worked at KPMG in management consulting and at TELUS Digital in digital strategy. She graduated from the Ivey Business School as an Ivey Scholar (top 10% of her class) and was recently recognized as one of Canada's Top 30 under 30 leaders by Bay Street Bull. Nadia is committed to giving back to her community through her role as a fundraising catalyst at Holland Bloorview Children's Hospital and as a mentor for the Junior Achievement Company Program where she provides weekly coaching to high school students as they operate their own small businesses. Outside of work, you can find Nadia playing her guitar, reading, and spending time outdoors biking and camping.
Simone Godbout is the Co-Founder and CEO of Marlow, a Toronto-based startup that is breaking down stigma around menstrual and sexual wellness through innovative products and reliable information. She has a background in community building, previously working as a Marketing Communications Specialist for the Glebe Business Improvement Association, where she worked with more than 300 small businesses to champion the region as a choice destination to international tourism boards. Simone has an Honours Degree in Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University. Simone has also been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 30 under 30 leaders by Bay St Bull. Outside of Marlow, she loves to surf, travel, and spend time moving outdoors.
