很久以前，有一位琴弹得特别好的人，叫俞伯牙。他高兴时弹的琴像小鸟跳舞，难过时弹的琴像下雨的傍晚——可是身边没有一个人真的听得懂他的琴。有一天，俞伯牙坐着船经过一座大山，傍晚时弹起琴来。岸上一个砍柴的人忽然喊："好啊！这琴声就像高高的大山一样！"伯牙又弹了一曲流水，那个人又听了出来！他到底是谁？两个人会成为什么样的朋友呢？

Long ago, there lived a man named Yu Boya who played the zither like nobody else. When he was happy, his music danced like little birds; when he was sad, it whispered like a rainy evening — yet not a soul around him ever truly understood what his music said. One evening, sailing past a great mountain, he sat at the bow and began to play. From the shore, a passing woodcutter cried out: "Wonderful! That music is just like a tall, towering mountain!" Yu Boya played again, this time of flowing water, and the woodcutter heard *that* too! Who was this stranger? And what kind of friendship would these two find together?
