I've been working in the accounting field since my junior year of high school, and don't recall wanting to do anything different. After college, I worked for several years in corporate accounting before taking a few years off to be home with my children. During that time I began working from home just a few hours a week supporting various business owners, mostly from my church connections, with bookkeeping services. As my kids grew, I rejoined the full time corporate accounting scene but kept working with a few of my private clients on the side. Now my oldest is married (he and his wife are in the navy), and my middle son and youngest daughter are in college, about 4 hours from where my husband and I reside in SC. I currently work FT as a Controller for an IT consulting company - and also maintain my own business, 4F Accounting Associates, providing solopreneurs and non-profit leaders with financial administration solutions. I believe our businesses are meant to do more than make a profit, they're meant to make a difference - to impact lives for God. This means that discussions with my clients include topics like purposeful generosity, which essentially means incorporating a defined plan for giving into their financial strategy. My long-term dream is to be able to connect for profit business owners with nonprofits that need corporate sponsors, so I'm not just helping clients build a giving plan, but also providing introductions that enable them to walk out those plans and expand their impact in the lives of others.
