Empire of Light is a 2022 British romantic drama film written and directed by Sam Mendes. The film stars Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Monica Dolan, Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke, Toby Jones, and Colin Firth.  

Empire of Light had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on 3 September 2022, was released through a limited theatrical release in the United States on 9 December 2022, and is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2023, by Searchlight Pictures. The film received mixed reviews from critics, though Colman's performance and Roger Deakins’ cinematography received large praise. At the 80th Golden Globe Awards, it received nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Colman.
