Bullying is common in nursing. This behavior is unacceptable and must be dealt with appropriately. New nurses are scared to ask questions at times because they fear to be bullied. This is a disruptive behavior which can result in the safety of the patient, costly to the organizations, decreased job satisfaction, and increase the number of new nurses quitting the profession. According to The American Nurses Association's, " Bullying is the repeated, unwanted harmful actions with the intent to humiliate, defend, and to cause distress in the recipient." There are the overt and covert types of bullying.
There are many and varied challenges in nursing. In this episode we will discuss three of them.
Nursing Shortage - nursing school enrollment is less than the required
Lack of nursing school faculty/ educators
Physicality- job description, transportation, and work related injuries
Bullying and Harassment - is growing and has become a serious nursing issue
Ways of coping with grief are many and varied. Expressions of sadness and feelings to others. Telling one’s story to family, friends, support groups, exercise, community, and prayers. There are others to be explored.
As a result of Covid-19 many nurses and staff experienced:
- Anxiety/ Fear
- Loss of patients or loved ones.
- Relocation: from clinics/ offices to bedside.
Frequent Hurdles:
- Training/ Re-training
- Emotional Disturbances
- Relocation/ Travel: Traveling from different hospitals/ facilities.
Documentation is involved in all categories of Nursing, including bedside, faculty/ staff, administration.
The Interdisciplinary team aligns with accurate documentation and integrates with other information from the inter-professional team resulting in favorable outcome of patient care.
Reasons why Documentation is important for communicating with the Health Team Include:
- Accreditation
- Credentialing
- Research
- Regulatory
- Legislative
- Reimbursement
- Electronic Health Care Record

Stress is one of the body’s reaction to pressure or overwhelming situations.
Factors that contribute to stress:
- Finical Loss
- Work/ Job Loss
- School
- Grief
- Sickness
- Social Pressure/ Bullying
- Parental Divorce
- Relationship Challenges
- Other
How to Cope with Stress:
1. Practicing Self-care (Exercise/ Stretching/ Walking/ Taking care of your Mental Health)
2. Connecting with Others.
3. Connecting with a Faith-Based Community or other Community Organizations.
