Self-reflection is very important for nurses, as it evaluates personal and professional growth. For a nurse, this reflection can focus on several areas such as experiences, challenges, successes, and future goals. Clinical practices, communication, challenges identified, coping mechanisms, seeking mentorship, and of course celebrating successes.
All nurses frequently experience fear and anxiety as they transition from education to practice. The demands of healthcare, and the responsibility of patient care, can be overwhelming at times. As a nurse cares for the patients, it's important to ensure a holistic approach which includes meeting the spiritual needs of the patient. Because the patient must be treated as a whole the nurse must recognize and implement spiritual care as part of the treatment care plan. The consideration must be made according to the beliefs of the patient. A creative, supportive environment should be embraced which includes active listening, and incorporating spiritual preferences into the care plans. Embracing this approach supports the healing of the patient, in addition to providing comfort, meaning, and peace during challenging moments.
