Dr. Smith observed gaps among new nurses as she participated in the educational skills for new nurses during onboarding and orientation in the hospital settings. In her book, "Nurse: The Guide to Empowering New Nurses " she has testimonials of both new and seasoned nurses as they read the book. She gave suggestions for nurses to advocate for themselves as well as their patients when necessary.
