Welcome to the third episode of the eGeos and MRCI podcast. Today we are featuring Kristen Carter from the Pennsylvania Geological Survey. The mission of the Geological Survey is to collect and disseminate information about the geology of Pennsylvania. They provide sound science to support good decision-making regarding Pennsylvania’s geologic resources and environment. Their products are available to government agencies, the private sector, and the public. Their work includes many subjects affecting Pennsylvania’s physical and economic health – water resources, mineral resources, energy, infrastructure, geologic hazards, and the environment. Carbon storage is just one example of the multidisciplinary, applied scientific work they do for the commonwealth.

Beginning in 2019, the Regional Initiative to Accelerate Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Deployment is supporting the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management’s (FECM) mission to help the United States meet its need for secure, affordable, and environmentally sound fossil energy supplies. This builds upon advancements made by the Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (RCSP) Initiative by identifying and addressing challenges to the widespread, commercial deployment of CCUS. There are four individual Regional Initiatives that gather and analyze information for their respective regions, work with existing and future demonstration projects, and coordinate certain efforts related to past and current field projects such as the Department of Energy’s CarbonSAFE. By leveraging the strengths of the new Regional Initiatives, it will be possible to identify and promote potential carbon transportation/utilization/storage projects that will help meet goals for a future net-zero carbon economy. The four Regional Initiatives have been established to further the mission of the U.S. Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory Carbon Storage Program.

She has demonstrated strong organizational capabilities by taking the lead on technical projects, mentoring interns, and through extensive professional volunteerism. She has also demonstrated breadth in programming languages, with a focus on integrating data analytics into oil and gas projects. Nick Lagrilliere is a Copenhagen-based PMP-certified project manager with more than 13 years of international offshore and onshore energy industry experience and a background in geoscience and data analytics. As a results-focused professional, he combines in-depth technical knowledge with strong interpersonal and interdisciplinary skills and thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Dr. Marit Brommer has extensive experience in traditional petroleum exploration. In 2017, she decided to leave petroleum for a role as an executive director in a non-profit organization called International Geothermal Association (IGA). The IGA serves as a platform for networking opportunities aimed at promoting and supporting global geothermal development. IGA embodies a wide variety of members ranging from academia to industry representatives.

Brandi is passionate about greenhouse gas inventorying, mitigation planning; carbon policy, offset protocols and methodology, project development, grant administration, behavioral change, and energy consumption. 

Dr Goodsite is a civil & environmental engineering full professor & Director of The Institute for Mineral and Energy Resources at the University of Adelaide. He is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Chair of the Sustainability Strategy Steering Committee.
