What were you doing at 17?
If you're anything like me, you were probably messing around in bowling alleys with your mates. However, that wasn't the case for Carl Hewitt, this week's guest on the Engaging Marketeer. Carl, along with his business partner Reece, set up a marketing agency at the age of 17.
In this podcast, Carl and I discuss what it was like for him starting as a young entreprenuer in marketing. He speaks on the difficulties involved with securing clients, pricing and all the other pitfalls involved in starting a marketing agency.
While his obvious business acumen is somewhat frustrating for a seasoned veteran such as myself, it was a privelege talking to Carl, who is clearly a very impressive businessperson.

I'm doing a TEDx talk! I'm not sure if I've mentioned this to anyone yet as I'm usually very good at keeping exciting news such as this to myself, but I just couldn't keep it in any longer...
In all seriousness, in this podcast, I'm looking ahead to what is a massive moment for me, as well as expressing the range of feelings I've been experiencing towards the talk. Of course I'm buzzing with excitement, but in this episode I also dive into some of the nerves, worries and feelings of not belonging that I've experienced over the past couple of weeks as I prepare for my talk.
My TEDx talk on cyber bullying will be taking place on April 4th, with the recording set to be posted on the TEDx website and TED app in the weeks after. I'd be grateful to every single one of you if you could have a watch of my talk when it is released and give me any thoughts or feedback you may have. I can't wait.
In the meantime, feel free to give this podcast a review, and be sure to subscribe to the Engaging Marketeer on your preferred podcast platform if you've not already.

If it's hard to do, Ash Poole wants to have a crack at it!
Due to undiagnosed learning difficulties, Ash was often thought of as the "naughty kid" in school and told he would never amount to anything. He took that as motivation to take on some of the toughest vocations out there - the Royal Marines, bodyguarding, mechanics and robotics, and even working in sewers - to prove the naysayers hopelessly wrong.
Any guesses what he says the toughest job he's done is? It will surprise you!
Hear Ash's fascinating journey to becoming The Fencing Bloke, where his love of being outdoors and his drive to make customers happy has led him to becoming one of the industries biggest names in the area.
Oh yeah, and we talked about poo a lot as well.
About Ash Poole:
Ash runs, or rather "is", The Fencing Bloke - a big and highly regarded name in fence installation in Chester, North Wales and North West England.

In this episode of the Engaging Marketeer, I'd like to show you how YOU can get your podcast, whether it exists yet or not, to number one in Apple's podcast rankings.
This is, in part, a little bit of a rant as well. This is because, as happens on a semi-regular basis, I got into a little bit of a fracas with a self-proclaimed podcast guru on LinkedIn about this very topic. He told me I couldn't get my podcast to number one without paying for ads, even though that is exactly what I did. So, with that in mind, I'm going to show you how you can do the exact same thing.
This technique is amazing, it's clever, and I'd like to thank my friend Kane Baron for helping to make this a reality for me and so many others. Kane specialises in the podcasting industry and runs webinars on how you can earn top rankings on Apple, so be sure to sign up to one if you want to learn even more.
Please leave a like if you enjoyed this podcast, and we hope to see you on the next episode of the Engaging Marketeer.

This week on the Engaging Marketeer, I'm speaking with an old friend of mine in Graham Dobbin. After working in the UK as a business coach, Graham has spent the past few years taking his talents across the pond, before going ALL the way down under!
In this episode, Graham tells me about the long process of leaving for New York, the difficulties he found while he was in the Big Apple, as well as the devastation caused by the COVID-19 lockdowns in the city. He then explains how this caused him to relocate again, this time in Sydney, Australia. Graham compares the working and business culture in the UK, US and Australia - hearing his fascinating insight is a must for any aspiring relocating business owners.

In this episode of the Engaging Marketeer, I'm talking you through some ways that you can turn your WordPress website into a membership or subscription-based site.
There are a number of subscription sites out there that offer these types of services. However, the costs and logistics of managing your content on these sites can be a little tricky, so I thought I'd talk you through the process of turning a WordPress website, which many of you may already have, into a membership site that allows you to earn a revenue from the content on your site.
If you're a pretty techy person, you've got a good chance of being able to do all this on your own. Even if you're not, however, if you're looking to turn your website into a membership service, these tips can help you save a lot of money and stress.
For a complete walk through on how you can turn a WordPress website into a membership site, you can join EngageWeb.Club here: https://engageweb.club

In today's episode of the Engaging Marketeer, I'm speaking to a lawyer-turned business coach (I know what you're thinking, what an odd transition!), Richard Nicholas. Alongside being an expert lawyer in the field of technology, Richard's broadened horizons have seen him delivering business advice to organisations across a range of sectors.
Here, Richard and I are discussing his motivations in first becoming a lawyer, as well as his decision to transition to another vocation. Not only that, we dig into his methods as a business coach, and why some businesses can be quite stubborn when receiving advice...
