Baroness Campbell, the FA’s Director of Women’s Football, has described this summer’s home European Championships as not just a special moment for women’s football, but also for women’s sport. More than five thousand tickets have been sold, and hopes are high that the tournament can have a huge impact on interest in the sport.
The success of the legacy of the Championships may well come down to how far the host nation progress. The Lionesses have never won a major international tournament before, but go into this year’s Euros with a 14 game unbeaten run under the management of Sarina Wiegman, who won the last Euros with the Netherlands in 2017. A player who has contributed heavily to this recent success is Manchester United forward Ella Toone. She’s scored 11 times in 15 appearances.
