  • 74-Time To Celebrate, Appreciate, & Focus On The Positive
Is It Time To Celebrate & Appreciate?

There is a sure fire way to make it more difficult to achieve your goals. It’s guaranteed to make the struggle worse, more painful, and just plain miserable. If that’s not enough, then it may even end up stopping all your progress and preventing you from hitting the goal you want most.

    What is it you ask?

Refusing to acknowledge the good things you have and appreciating them.

You ever feel like giving up, run down, depleted, spent, unhappy, miserable, and pessimistic with a bad attitude? I know that I can’t be the only that has experienced those symptoms. And they are symptoms of where we choose to place our focus. We get to choose where place our thoughts and what we choose to focus on.

To be completely honest, I was experiencing some of that negativity recently. It was really unpleasant. I had started thinking about all the things that I wanted to be different, to have, or be able to do and what I was missing out on. That led me to miss many of the wonderful things that I do have in my life. I was not celebrating and appreciating.

    Why Celebrate & Appreciate?

Why even take the time and effort to make sure you celebrate and appreciate the good things? Shifting your mindset to one that is grateful for the big and the small positive things can help you to accomplish more and enjoy life.

    What you focus on grows.

When you focus on the negative it grows. The negative will begin to seem bigger and bigger. It will consume other areas and start to overshadow any positive thing that gets too close. The good things will seem smaller and less significant while you focus on the negative.

Ever have one negative thing happen and then you thought about it and thought about it? Maybe after a while you thought about it so much that any positive thing didn’t even seem that great because all you could think about was the one negative event.

The same thing can happen when you choose to focus on something positive. The positive can grow, become greater, overshadow negative inconveniences and make life a little nicer.

You can choose where you focus. Choose to focus on what you want to grow.

    Get a positive mental boost

All about mindset here and being grateful helps the mindset. Seeing the positive things you’ve done can help promote the ever helpful ‘Can Do’ attitude. That great feeling confidence you can accomplish one thing because you’ve already accomplished something else. Celebrate your victories can keep that attitude that You Can Achieve!

Makes taking action a little easier

Seeing the good things, people, and blessing can help you to keep action toward your goals. My family is one of my good things. I appreciate them being in my life. When I think about them and think of anything I need to do that would help them, I have the energy to do it. I may be exhausted, but the positive mental boost I get by choosing to focus on a very big positive helps me to take action even when tired.

    It feels good

This is a simple one. It just plain feels good to celebrate successes and appreciate blessings. So, do it. Yes, it may help you to take action toward your goals, improve your mindset, increase confidence, or a host of other things. But, really you could just do it because it feels good.

    What can you celebrate?

    What progress have you made?
    What action have you taken?
    What goals have you set?
    Are you willing to try?

    What can you appreciate?

What blessings or skills do you have?
Are there people in your life that you appreciate?

There are good things in life even when you’re still striving to make changes and improvements. There is something good and positive out there.

Look for it. Find it. Value it.

  • 73-How To Fail & Achieve Your Goals
How To Fail & Achieve Your Goals

If you really want to achieve great things, if you have big goals worth pursuing, then you may want to be ready to fail.

Before we get any further, I don’t like losing. I know I’m not alone. But, I have to say “I REALLY don’t like losing.” It is kind of a joke in my family about how competitive I can get. If I’m playing a game, then I want to win. That’s the point right?

When I set a goal, I want to achieve it! Of course, I want to succeed. In fact, of course, I want you to succeed too.

So, why the heck did I start by telling you to be ready to fail? I don’t want you to fail at achieving your goals. I want you to be willing to fail.

    Are You Willing To Fail?

If you’re not willing to fail (at least a little bit), then you won’t take any risks. You won’t step out and give your absolute best to achieve your goals and make your life more what you want it to be. You won’t. Success in any area takes some risks.

Are you willing to step out of your comfort zone (at least a little bit) in order to improve?
Are you willing to risk things not working out just perfect?
Maybe even risk looking a little dumb for trying so hard?

When you’re willing to accept the consequences (getting uncomfortable, things not working perfect, even being made fun of), then you’re capable of achieving more.

    Is It Really Bad?

To be completely honest, I don’t like the word failure. It seems to mean many different things. If fail at one step as I strive toward my goal, did it really fail? Maybe.

There will always be ups and downs along any journey to improve. As long as there is learning and persistence there can be progress and improvement.

Is it failure if you learn and improve? Not really. Things can not work out how you’d like in one moment, but if you don’t give up, you can still make the progress you want.

If failure is just things not turning out exactly how I want, then I fail ALL the time. I mean all the time. At the same time, my life keeps getting better. Why? How can things keep going not how I want AND I get more of what I really want? Simple – try to learn, improve, and never give up. Just try.

    Be Willing

I get that failure can be scary. It’s scary to me. I have a family. They are my priority. I love them and don’t want anything to bad, unpleasant, or even uncomfortable to happen to any of them. So, for me, I’m talking about small failures. Failing within reason per say.

What would you do if you knew that you couldn’t fail?

This question can start you on the right track. You can begin to explore all that you are capable of achieving.

Conquering your big goals can require you to be brave. Not stupid – Brave.

How would you act if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Would you go ‘All In’ for your goals?

Would you give it all you have? Would you strive to create the life you want?

It’s funny. Thinking that we can’t fail or fully accepting that we may fail either way of thinking can help us succeed.

Both can lead to the us taking the action needed for the desired results.

Change takes work. Goal require action.

    Go All In!

Failure happens. Don’t let it stop you.

  • 72-It's Not About Other People
    Who Is Your Journey About?

Let me tell you about Jim. Jim has a goal of starting a blog. He has a message he wanted to share. He wants to encourage, help, and guide people through a simple way to lose weight. Losing weight and getting healthy saved Jim and he wants to share that with others. What a noble goal. What does Jim do? He takes action, takes that first step, and starts a blog. Simple. Jim is now making progress towards his goal. Then, he starts to look at other people websites. He sees how their sites are better looking, more robust, with huge followings. Jim gets discouraged. He know his site is small, simple, and doesn’t reach hardly anyone. Jim loses focus on his purpose and journey. Jim quits his goal. Now, his blog doesn’t help anyone – not even Jim.

    What Happened To Jim?

Jim started to compare himself and his progress to other people. When he saw how much better other health websites were compared to his, he got discouraged. The more he compared his current status to other people’s the more he focused on how far he needs to go. Jim forgot about the progress he already made. He lost sight of why he was pursuing his goal and the good he was doing.

    Your Goals Are About YOU

it’s not about others – its about you

If you compare yourself to others, then you’ll either feel like you’re better than them or worse than them. Neither of those feelings will help you achieve your goal.

When you compare yourself to yourself, you’re in control.

    You have power to change.
You get to keep every bit of progress.

There will be ups & downs, but overall you will get better as you strive to improve.

Your Goals Are Worth Your Focus
Don’t Let Other People Distract You

When To Not Think & Just Take Action

    Who will achieve your goals?
    Who will change your life?

    What will it take?
Just for a single split second think what what it will take for your goals to become real? (really quick)

There are probably some things that need to happen, steps you need to take, things you’ll have to do to achieve your goals.

Do stuff is taking action. You know one thing that can stop all action? Thinking.

    Thinking Can Stop You

Have you ever thought about something you should do to help make progress toward a goal? And then after thinking about if for a few moments decided to back down and not do it?

Maybe it was too scary, challenging, you didn’t feel like doing it in the moment, or just didn’t have that surge of motivation.

What If You Just Did It?

What would happen if you didn’t think about it when you had that impulse to take action? What would happen if you just took the steps?

    Just Do It!
    right?

That perfect feeling of strong, focused motivation is a bunch of crap. It’s not there, doesn’t exist, and won’t help you.

What does exist AND will help you achieve, improve, and succeed is moving forward. When you’re taking steps toward your goals, you make progress. Now, your progress can help you feel good a can be motivating.

When I’m sleeping in my comfortable bed, having a nice dream, and my alarm goes off do you think I’m motivated to jump up out of bed?
Ha! No! But, you know what will make it worse? Laying there and thinking about getting out of bed makes it even more difficult to move. Have you ever been there? Knowing that it will help you just to get up and get going, but you start to think about and don’t just move.

This morning I was sleeping and it was great. Then, my alarm went off. I sat up, got out of bed, and got going.

2 Things Doing And Not Thinking Can Do For You   You’ll Make More Progress

    You’ll get more done.
    Get closer to your goals.
    Create the life you want.
    Make changes and improvements.

      Enjoy The Journey More

Sitting thinking about what you know you should do, what you could be doing, what later you’ll wish you would have done, thinking about those things is not pleasant. It can be defeating. You’ll know that you’re not doing you’re just thinking. Often, just taking steps toward your goal isn’t that bad. Thinking about having to do the work can be worse than just doing it.

      You Can Eat Your Elephant!
    One Bite At A Time

Don’t think about the bite or the steps you will take. Take that step, take the action, and move forward.

There is a great book that is all about just acting in the moment and not thinking that I want to recommend. It’s ‘The 5 Second Rule’ by Mel Robbins. You can find it on my recommended books page.

    You Only Have Today!

    You don’t have tomorrow.
You already spent yesterday. You only have today.

Want to achieve more? Improve more? Enjoy life more?
Ya, me too! That’s why I’m staying in today.

Today is my day. Today is your day.

    Stay In Today

What does all this stay in today and you only have today talk mean?

There are key things that I want you to keep in today.
    Your Thoughts
    Your Actions

    Keep Your Thoughts In Today

Have you ever caught yourself spending time thinking about the past?
    Me too.

Have you ever caught yourself spending time thinking about the future?
    Me too again.

What do you do when you realize it?

Sometimes it’s nice to remember good times, thinking about the fun and enjoyment we’ve had. That’s a positive thing and can help us to fully enjoy life. It can even be good look forward to something nice coming our way too. The nice, pleasant, and helpful thoughts toward the past or future are not what I’m talking about here.

I’m saying don’t spend time thinking about the past or future and wishing today was better. Thinking about the good old days or perfect future too much can make today seem not so good and lead you to enjoying it less.

When you’re thoughts going backward or forward stop you from making today the best it can be,

    STOP!

    Your Actions Are In Today

    You have today!
    And only today.

Here are a few benefits of staying in the day today:

      Enjoy life more

Being present in where you’re at right now can help you enjoy it more. Less wishing for different times. More be where you’re at and make the most of it.

    Make more progress

Staying in the today will help you to move closer to your goals. You can only take steps toward what you want in the present moment. Why not use the moments you have today? You will never get them back again. If you don’t, then you’ll just be looking back from tomorrow thinking of the progress you could have made. And not making progress then either.

      Develop the habit

Habits make thing easier. If you develop the habit of make the most of the day today, it will be easier to do the exact same tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. All you have to do is do your best today. That’s it. Don’t think/worry about tomorrow. Do your best today.

    Take Advantage of Today

Yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn’t here yet. All you have is today.
Take advantage of the time you have today and make the most if it!
You’re the one who will benefit.

Have You Decided To Enjoy Life?

If you haven’t, then do it. That’s it. Just decide to enjoy life. But, there is a bit of a catch.

Decision requires actions. Otherwise, it’s not really a decision is it.

      Simple example of a decision:

“There were 5 frogs sitting on a log. One decided to jump off. How many are left.”
Well, there are 5. That is until the one that decided to jump follows that decision with action.

Decide To Conquer Goals & Enjoy Life

How can we apply the simple lesson from the frogs to goals and enjoying life? Easy. Make a decision & take action.

You can choose what you do and how you view it. Decide what you want to do in this life and do it. Choose if you want to be happy or not and then focus on that.

    Choose To Enjoy Life

Is enjoying life something that happens to you?
Or, is it something you can decide to do?

I believe you can choose to enjoy life. Is it always be easy? No! In fact, I’ll probably be a bigger challenge than staying miserable. But, the payoff is beyond worth the effort.

    Doing Nothing Is A Choice

Now that you’ve read this the choice is yours. If you choose to decide not to pursue your goals and try to make the most of your life, that’s your choice. But, choosing to do nothing is a decision in itself.

Are you going to let your situation and surroundings determine the quality of your life? Or, will you choose to make the most of where you’re at while you strive to create the life you want?

The choice is yours. And you will end up deciding. Your action are what will show your choice. So, decide in your mind and then act on your decision.

I think the best answer is clear. Make the absolute most of what you have and what you’ve been given. You are capable of so much. All you need to do is choose to do your best, make the best of what you have, and enjoy it as much as you can.

    This is your life!
    Choose to enjoy it!
