  • 64-Check Your Blind Spots
You Can’t See Your Blinds Spots

Have you ever been driving and go to change lanes and that moment the split second before you actually go into that next lane you see a car you didn’t see before. You even looked over your shoulder. You looked in your mirror. But, you didn’t see it. It was there, though. There was a car and you almost got into a terrible car wreck. How did that happened? You’re a good driver, you know what you’re doing, and you even looked.

Well, the other vehicle was in your blind spot. You know vehicles have blind spots. That particular place around a vehicle that is very difficult to see. It’s very easy for a car to hind in a blind spot and not be seen at all. At the same time, that hiding vehicle is there even if we can’t see them.

    Personal Blind Spots

What’s all this blind spot talk have to do with making improvements and achieving goals? Just like a vehicle, just like my car I have blind spots. There are some areas of my life that are tough for me to see. That doesn’t mean there is anything wrong, deficient or broken with me. It’s just an area of life in area of myself that’s difficult for me to see myself. It’s just me and I can’t see everything about me.

Ask for help with blind spots

So, what I need to do? I have to make sure that I’m checking in with people that I know that are close and dear to me and are willing to be honest to give me some feedback. That way I can make the changes I need and improve. Before you think this is some sort of rosie fun wonderful thing easy thing to do, let me go ahead say it’s not. When I hear about things that I’m doing that I just don’t notice because they are things that I’ve always done or how I’ve always looked at life it tends to not be the most positive things in my blind spots. Hearing about what I do unintentionally can sting a little bit. Being told about what’s in my blind spots isn’t particularly fun. But, let me go ahead and tell you it is well worth it. It’s often the exact things that we don’t want to do and are a little bit uncomfortable and don’t feel so good in the moment that get us exactly what we want. I want to make improvements and I want to become a better person and I want to achieve my goals have for life and in order to do that I got to make sure that I’m improving myself.

      Get help with blind spots

Self-improvement can be a great thing. In order to really improve myself sometimes I need an outside perspective. Sometimes I need a little bit of help. And a little bit of help can just be a viewpoint from someone that’s outside of myself, outside of my own life, and my own head. I need someone to tell me the things that I’m missing.

    What do you think?

    Are you up for it?

Is there somebody in your life that knows you well, spends time with you, and you really trust. Is there someone who honestly and accurately give you a little bit of feedback on some of the areas that you might want to improve that you’re missing? It may not be the most fun and enjoyable thing that you’ve done. But, the payoff, those benefits that you can get to improve in ways that you couldn’t before.

You get to carry those benefits and improvements with you for the rest of your life. That ways you can make the adjustments, changes, and improvements and enjoy life.

Did I Give You Too Many?

I have a problem.  Not really. I have many problems. But, what I’m talking about here is giving you you too many things to focus on. The last episode I gave you a few books that I learned a lot from and though you might like too. I probably should give you just one thing at a time.

    You Can Pick Just One

No matter what it is you can pick just one. Which books should you read to help you succeed? Just pick one. Which new habit should you start to improve your health? Just pick one.

Don’t get bogged down by all the options you have. There are plenty out there. The most important part is that you start. Any healthy, positive, good for you step you take can help you. Just start. Take one step. Read/listen to one book. Start one new good habit. It doesn’t matter. Just pick one and start.

A Few Books To Help You Achieve & Enjoy Life

You know that I didn’t just make up all of the material I share with you. I take what I have learned from many sources and put it together in a way that I hope can help you have the life you want. Of course, I did learn a lot in school. Studying psychology gave me a great foundation to build my understanding on. But, does that mean you have to get a master’s degree to be able to make improvements and guide your life to go where you want? HECK NO!

In fact, there are some excellent books out there that can be a huge help. And they are far more enjoyable to read than textbooks. In some ways there are even more helpful too. These are just a few. I tried to have this list be only three. It’s not anymore. Oh well.

Those that believe their their skills and capabilities are fixed, won’t change, tend to be right. Those that believe their skills and capabilities can grow tend to be the ones that push themselves to improve. I know which side of the comparison I want to be on. Which side are you on?

    Attitude

The Difference Maker – John C. Maxwell

You still have to do the work to achieve your goals whatever they are. But, Your attitude can be the difference maker.

  • 61-You Can't Choose Where You Start
Where You Start Is Not What Matters

Every single person that achieve anything started from somewhere. That’s a fact. Another fact is everyone doesn’t get to start at the same place. It would be pretty convenient if we each got to choose the exact place we were able to start from. But, that’s not the case. If it were, then starting right next to the ultimate goal would make achieving anything so much easier and faster.

      Can’t Choose Where You Start

Does that mean you should give up? NO! Does that mean you shouldn’t start? Of Course Not! What it does mean that it is up to you to choose to start. The best thing about starting is that you can move forward. As soon as you start moving forward, you are no longer in the same place anymore. If you want to start further along toward your goal, then just start.

Everyone moment you spend thinking about the work being easier is wasted. Any effort wishing to for the journey to your goal to be shorter is energy that could be used to get you there faster.

    How You Spend Your Time

You have a choice. You can choose to spend your time thinking about where other people were able to start. Maybe they had and advantage you don’t. Or they were able to start way further along than you. Spend time thinking about those things and you’ll be exactly in the same place. You may even regress away from your goal. That’s terrible.

You can choose to spend your time moving closer to your goal. How do you do that. You start where you’re at right now.

    Make Tomorrow’s Start Better

You can make tomorrow’s start better. If you choose to spend your time, energy, and focus not wishing for things to be better, but making them better, you can move forward and improve. It can not change where you start today, but it can make where you start tomorrow much better. And that is a great thing.

Win In The Minutes To Achieve Your Goals

    Time Will NOT Delay

Tomorrow will come. Time will continue to pass. It’s up to you to choose what you do with your time.

You may delay, but time will not. - Benjamin Franklin

    Time Will Pass

Years are made up of weeks, weeks are made of days, and days of minutes. The life you want, being the person you want to be, whatever you want to achieve or have in your life you probably won’t achieve in a single action step. Thats’ life. There isn’t anything wrong with time. It just continues.

      Goals Take Time

What does time have you do with you achieving your goals? Well, it will most likely take more than one step, minute, or even day. The great, rewarding, wonderful things in life take work and time. But, that can be a great thing. That doesn’t mean that you have to be perfect for the years to get there. I don’t think so. If so, that would suck because I’m far from perfect and yet I know that I can achieve my goals. I’ve already hit many and I am making progress toward many more.

What it does mean? Each small step I take, the little progress counts. By taking advantage of those minutes that make up the day I can make progress. You can make progress too! It’s in those minutes. The minutes are crucial. And the best new is that those minutes are kind of easy. They really are.

    Win In The Minutes

You can win in the minutes. Make progress toward your goals by taking the small steps and the little bits of time. Yes, take the big actions if/when you can. Just don’t let limited time stop you from making the progress you can be making.

    A Few of My Goals

Let’s take my goal to be healthier, with more energy, and better focus. Pretty sure I’m not the only one with those desires. Feeling healthier isn’t an instant thing. But, one easy, small, quick win that helps me feel a little healthier is just to bring my lunch to work. I can throw some decent food in my lunch in just a minute or two. It’s not a crazy, time consuming task. Sounds simple and small because it is. But, when I continue to take that small step the benefits add up over time. When I get good food, I feel better, have more energy, and can think better too.

I also need exercise to feel healthy, have energy, and think clearly. So, I try to get exercise. But, with a busy schedule and demands for my time, there isn’t always large blocks available for long workouts. That’s why I sneak it in. Just a couple minutes of stretching and exercising in the mornings helps me feel good and stay on track.

My mindset is also a key component of my health, energy, and focus. I take just a about 2 minutes in the mornings and during the day some and address my mindset. That keeps it positive, focused, and serving my best to achieve my goals.

Does really working on my health, energy, and focus end up taking more time than just a few minutes. Yes, but the point is that I can make a little progress. And a little progress is far better than none at all.

    Your Goals Too

How can you use your minutes? What small blocks of time can you use to help you make progress and achieve your goals. Big changes can be difficult. They’re great, though. Take them if/when you can. But, you CAN take the small steps AND make progress.
