Join us for a lively and enlightening conversation with spiritual leader Adam Yellow Bird DeArmon who has been practicing the Inipi tradition for many years and whose sweat lodge was recently shut down by Yavapai County officials. Adam has traveled extensively throughout the world working, learning and living with many different indigenous peoples. We all have a right to know what’s in the food we eat and feed our children. This includes whether or not the food is genetically engineered. We need to be able to make informed choices and have the freedom to choose which foods we consume. If we don’t eat organic food, we may be eating genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) without knowing it. GMO’s include plants and animals whose DNA has been altered by genes from other animals, viruses, bacteria, herbicides and pesticides. Many foods contain these altered genes but they are not labeled. The majority of countries in the world require labels on GMO foods, but in the U.S. no labels are required. Consumers have tried for years to get their representatives to pass laws requiring labeling without success. Now the people of California have passed a historic citizens’ initiative that may finally give us the freedom to know what is in the foods we eat.
