It’s not often the showbiz world overlaps with the boxing world - but the release of the blockbuster movie GIANT has divided opinion around the boxing world. Starting former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan as the legendary trainer Brendan Ingle the movie tells the story of the career of Sheffield superstar Prince Naseem Hamed and his relationship with Ingle. We hear from British boxing legend & former stablemate of Hamed Johnny Nelson as he addresses some of the narratives in the media & amongst fans since its release.

Adam Olaniyan is a super heavyweight, 7 time Irish champion. 2 time European champion and World champion who boxes out of the Jobstown boxing club in Tallaght. A list of achievements made even more impressive by the fact that he’s only 19’years old.

Adam speaks to AL about some of the things a teenage kid growing up in Tallaght gets up to.

About the impact boxing has had on his life & how his impenetrable faith had helped him through the stresses of lockdown, exam & study & not to mention the pressure of being a teenage world champion.

Adam Whos older brother Josh & younger brother David are also Irish champions - explains how vital Jobsfown boxing club has been for his community and how it helps keep teenage boys and girls away from trouble.

After a couple of weeks break Ian & AL are back with plenty to discuss in episode 246.

The lads disagree over the Joseph Parker v Fabio Wardley stoppage and look back over the Queensbury promotions card last weekend in Manchester where once again UK officials were under the spotlight. MVP Promotions have been front and centre in the headlines as Chantelle Cameron vacates the WBC title AND Jake Paul cancels his fight with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in light of his recent charges. The lads discuss all of that and we welcome the Kalafornia Kid Rhys Moran back to the show as he announces his moving up in weight.

What a fortnight it’s been, 2 colossal boxing shows featuring Lewis Crocker, Paddy Donovan and Mick Conlan with the very best of Irish boxers on the undercards.

Sadly - it has been somewhat overshadowed by the tragic death of Ricky Hatton. In this episode 243 Ian and AL visit O'Rourke's Gym as another of Ireland's top welterweights Ryan O'Rourke prepares for his next outing in New York. We catch up with Mancunian coach Steven O'Rourke to chat about the untimely passing of Ricky which brings back some haunting memories of his own fighter John Cooney who tragically lost his life last February,.

We also welcome Oooosh TV host Al Foran and This Is Dublin presenter Anthony to the show for the first time.

The first time these two welterweights boxed in Belfast, Donovan was so dominant that his biggest threat was simply getting carried away and finishing matters prematurely by unfair means. The only way he could lose, it seemed, was if he continued to foul Crocker and ended up getting disqualified.

This time around Donovan and Crocker would renew acquaintances in front of a 20,000 capacity at Windsor Park – with the IBF Welterweight World Title on the line.

In this episode 242 Ian and AL look back over a card that was stacked with a mixture of brilliant match-ups and of course - Lewis Crocker v Paddy Donovan.

There are no words that can summarise the life of Ricky Hatton - simply because he managed to achieve SO much in his life. He was a multi weight world champion, a darling of the public, a friend, a coach, son, a Dad and a Grandad. He was a man who never forgot where he came from even at the hight of his fame and world domination Ricky Hatton always made time for his fans - for the people who saw him as one of their own.

From a boxing standpoint it will take a long long time to heal this wound - if ever. This episode is one to cherish, one I'll never forget. The morning I spoke to Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton.
