Enswell Boxing

When Gerald McClellan & Nigel Benn touched gloves in the centre of the ring back in February 1995 - nobody could be quite sure what was about to happen.

Following one of the most intensely brutal boxing matches of all time, American Gerald McClellan lapses into a coma & began a fight for his life that would leave him with catastrophic brain injuries.

As this episode is released - 27 years after that night, Gerald’s sister & carer Lisa joins us to talk about it all & where Gerald is at today.

We are also joined by former pro & current coach to Artur Beterbiev - ‘Iceman’ John Scully as he tells us how he manages to raise funds for some true boxing legends suffering similar to McClellan.

Not long discharged from hospital - Al explains his recent bout of illness & how he’s bouncing back into Season 3 of the podcast.
One of our new features this season will be to focus on and highlight the grassroots of boxing in Ireland by speaking with and visiting the various clubs around the country. Kicking us off will be Gerry O’Mahony as he talks us through the huge work that goes into running the Celtic Box Cup in Dungarvan every year.
Renowned boxing expert and award winning journalist Neil Loughran looks back over a brilliant Belfast boxing bonanza and gives his thoughts on the performances.
Feargal McKenna chatted to Al a while back and explained the blueprint behind the incredible growth and rise of his sons Aaron & Stevie.
And not many in boxing can tick the amount of boxes that Carl Greaves can. He had almost 40 pro fights - winning a British & WBF title enroute. He boxed the likes of Michael Gomez, Alex Arthur and Carl Johansen and after boxing has gone on to train Dec Spellman, Sam Bowen and David Avanesyan to name a few. He’s a manager, promoter and all round geat boxing man and he took time to chat to Al about it all.
